Golden Gamble. Gold mining in the Philippines, a dirty business
More films about the Philippines: https://rtd.rt.com/tags/philippines/ - The use of child labour in the Philippine’s Paracale, or ‘Goldtown’, is widespread - Extracting gold involves diving into mud-filled shafts and using toxic mercury - Poverty and lack of alternative jobs force people into this highly dangerous work - Many die young due to work accidents or breathing problems, others develop chronic illness The Philippines’ town of Paracale was dubbed “Goldtown” for its rich deposits of the precious metal. Despite government attempts to regulate mining, illegal pits are still commonplace. They lack even the most basic health and safety and workers are exposed to toxic mercury fumes. Dirty water causes skin diseases and they live with the constant threat of being buried alive. Workers continue to take these risks day after day, because there is no other source of income. Many of the gold miners are children whose families can’t afford to send them to school. Some gold is panned on the surface, but a lot has to be extracted from underground. To do that, prospectors dive into narrow, mud-filled shafts, uses snorkelling masks and long tubes too breathe. If the mine collapses, they have no chance of escape. They have a saying here, ‘while you’re down the mine, you have one foot in the grave’. Several miners have already died that way, others from respiratory diseases caused by inhaling mercury fumes. The toxic metal is used in gold extraction with no safety precautions, so it poisons the air, the ground and the water, causing long-term harm to the whole community. Another danger to the inhabitants of Paracale comes from disused mines, abandoned and left open, waiting for unsuspecting victims to fall in. The business takes its toll on workers, their families and the community. They have been known to demonstrate, demanding safer working conditions, better pay and other job opportunities, but change is slow. Meanwhile, extreme poverty among people who produce one of the world’s most precious metals leaves them no option but to continue with this pitiless occupation. Neodymium Is In Demand And China Controls Its Supply
Powerful magnets are necessary for an iPhone to vibrate or a Tesla Model 3's motor to spin. If you combine neodymium with iron and boron, you can make a neodymium-iron-boron magnet, which is the most powerful type of permanent magnet ever created. And demand for these magnets is on the rise. But 80 percent of the world's neodymium comes from China. You may not have heard of neodymium, but you're probably carrying some of it around with you right now. It's in your cellphone, your headphones and you might be driving several pounds of it around in your car. Neodymium — pronounced "nee-oh-DIM-ee-um" — is one of 17 chemically similar elements called rare earth elements, and demand for this metal is on the rise. "Neodymium is responsible for most, if not all, of the growth in rare earth demand at the moment," said Roderick Eggert, deputy director of the Critical Materials Institute at Colorado School of Mines. For an iPhone to vibrate, for AirPods to play music, for wind turbines to generate power and for a Toyota Prius or Tesla Model 3's motor to spin, they need powerful magnets. If you combine neodymium with iron and boron, you can make a neodymium-iron-boron magnet, which is the most powerful type of permanent magnet ever created. In the case of your cellphone and earbuds, using neodymium magnets means they can be physically tiny but still strong. For motors, using permanent magnets means powerful, efficient motors with fewer electromagnetic components. » Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. "It will take centuries, thousands of years before everything can return to normal", says biologist Eddy Nurtjahya. The Islands of Bangka and Belitung are experiencing a tin rush and with a laissez-faire government and rampant corruption, many are now seeking international pressure to help curb this illegal trade. Tabubil and Ok Tedi copper and gold mine, Star Mountains, travel in Papua New Guinea
Tabubil is a planned, company operated township located in the Star Mountains area of the North Fly District of Western Province, Papua New Guinea.[2] The town, including the adjoining relocated village of Wangabin and the industrial area of Laydown (where industrial equipment was originally laid down before being installed at the mine ~1970–1980), is the largest settlement in the province,[3] although the provincial capital, Daru is a similar size.[4] It had a recorded population of 10,270 at the 2011 census.[1] Tabubil is set in extremely dense jungle fed by one of the highest rainfalls in the world. The town is the largest settlement in the country that has never been a provincial capital, or incorporated within one. The town was established primarily to serve the mine of Ok Tedi, which is currently mining copper and gold. Tabubil itself is situated amongst dense jungle on a plateau, beside a steep escarpment leading down to the Ok Tedi River in the Star Mountains of Papua New Guinea. The township is very remote and is only accessible via air, or river barge followed by road. 3-week miners’ strike dispersed by tear gas and water cannons in Chile
The three-week strike by workers at the Escondida copper mine in northern Chile turned violent on Wednesday after protesters blocked a highway, prompting police to use tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesting miners. The blockade and resulting clashes brought traffic to a halt and cut off southern access to the Chilean city of Antofagasta. The strike began on February 9 in reaction to disagreements over the benefits worker receive as well as changes in shift patterns. Workers also accuse BHP Billiton of failing to deliver payments. Bizarre Discoveries in Mines
Here are 11 of the most unusual findings deep in the earth like ancient and time primate fossils or trapped toads alive in rocks!! Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr # 7 Toads found in Rock One strange phenomena that still doesn’t have an explanation are toads that find themselves entombed deep into stone and continue to live. For years quarriers and miners have discovered to their surprise, live toads inside of the rocks they crack open. In some cases the toads are found 5, 10, and even 20 feet deep inside of rock. In all cases, they have no visible way in or out and yet in all cases they are all still alive. This bizarre phenomena is often called “toad in the hole”. No one knows how these toads find themselves in the rock, or how they survive without any water, food, or air. # 6 Ghost Miners in Mponeng The world’s deepest gold mine called the Mponeng Mine located in South Africa runs so far into the ground with so many winding tunnels that it’s almost like a dark underground city. The expansive, dark, and hot mine is almost impossible to completely keep watch over so every once in awhile an illegal squatter will be discovered. Mponeng squatters are called “ghost miners” and will find empty caverns to make their home in, illegally mine gold to sell above ground, and will even meet with prostitutes in the mines. # 5 The Bold Travelers of Mponeng - Desulforudis audaxviator In the world’s deepest gold mine, a new species of bacterium was discovered called Desulforudis audaxviator. Audaxviator translates to “bold traveller” which refers to the fact that the bacteria was found 2 miles below the surface of the Earth and is the only organism in its ecosystem. The strange bacteria has evolved to live without sunshine or oxygen. Instead, it lives off of hydrogen and sulfide as food, which come from the breakdown of radioactive elements. Basically, it’s a nuclear waste eating bacteria. It’s the only one of its kind and have amazed scientists with its complete solitude underground. # 4 Giant Roach Fossil Found in Ohio Coal Mine Geologists were combing through an old coal mine in an area known for its plant fossils when they discovered an extremely rare fossil. It was a giant roach fossil - about 4 inches long and twice as big as most modern American roaches. The fossil is rare because it’s completely in tact, while most insect fossils are only partial imprints. Fossils in the cave also preserved some of the smallest cockroach fossils ever found and their color patterns. Inside the coal mine, even more rare insect fossils were found including a rare ancient arachnid and a 60 inch long and 12 inch wide centipede. The chemistry of this coal mine in Ohio somehow preserved these insects with extreme detail that is not seen anywhere else. # 3 Dead Body found in Ghost Town Mine Hobby adventurers had the scare of their life when they were exploring an abandoned ghost town called Whroo in Victoria, Australia. The two were in the ghost town’s abandoned mine when they found a dead body covered in plastic and shoved into a deeper hole inside. The victim was a 50 year old man in a Neil Young shirt and the perpetrators were later found to be a 26 year old man and 30 year old woman. The details on this case are scarce, but it has all the makings of a really good CSI episode. # 2 Four Square Miles of Carboniferous Forest Discovered The fossils of almost an entire forest from the Carboniferous period was uncovered in the ceiling of two adjacent coal mines in Illinois. This discovery is the largest single-period fossil discovery in recorded history. Archaeologists delved into the 250 feet deep mine to explore and record the fossils. There were upwards of 200 specimens of detailed shrubs, trees, flowers, and even insects. # 1 Tiny, Strange Primate Fossil In the Krabi coal mine of Thailand, archaeologists uncovered a new species of a teacup sized primate. They found mandibles that belong to the pea-sized primates called Krabia minuta. Krabia minuta were native to Asia and are the ancestors to all monkeys, apes, and humans. They were impressively able to make it to Africa despite being separated from a body of water at the time that was bigger than the Mediterrenean sea. This bizarre find is very important for archaeologists, because it indicates a period of extreme evolution of primates in the area and will continue to yield more discoveries in years to come.

88,000 tons of radioactive waste – and nowhere to put it
The United States produces 2,200 tons of nuclear waste each year…and no one knows what to do with it. The federal government has long promised, but never delivered, a safe place for nuclear power plants to store their spent fuel. This means that radioactive waste is piling up all over the country. We visited one of the worst places where the waste is stuck: a beachside power plant uncomfortably close to both San Diego and Los Angeles. And we asked the people in charge of the waste there: what happens now? Up close with Yulin, China’s sub base that’s a concern to India
New images from Google Earth show that Yulin has become China’s most critical naval base for its nuclear subs and has consequences for India. Yulin Bay in China’s Hainan Island in the south is the only base from where Chinese submarines, especially the nuclear ones, can move into the deep ocean without being detected or intercepted. An analysis of Google Earth images of 1 September 2017 shows how this base has grown in importance since its construction began in 2001 to become one of the most critical for the Chinese Navy with strategic implications for India. Yulin is a strategic nuclear ballistic missile-carrying submarine base with an underground tunnel facility for storage and maintenance. This base provides China’s nuclear subs ease of access to the South China Sea and thus to the Indian Ocean region (IOR) and in turn to the Indo-Pacific waters without being detected. It is, at present, the only base with a permanent deployment of Chinese nuclear submarines of Type 94 Jin class and Type 91 Han class and/or Type 93 Shang class. The unchallenged access to IOR will allow the PLA Navy (PLAN) to closely monitor all Indian Navy traffic, especially India’s second-strike capabilities at sea, and an opportunity for interception whenever the need arises. Yulin is also significant because of the ease with which it allows PLAN to launch its boats against Indian targets, both at sea and on land. The importance of Yulin Bay became known when a signals intelligence (SIGINT) aircraft of the US Navy force-landed at Lingshui airport on 1 April 2001. The plane was monitoring the construction work of a tunnel at the strategic Yulin Bay. The AN/APS-115 navigation radar scanner of the aircraft was damaged in a collision with a Chinese fighter plane, forcing the former to force-land in Chinese territory. The crew was returned after diplomatic deliberations but the aircraft was retained apparently for reverse engineering. China’s SIGINT programme gathered pace after this incident. Overview of the naval base The Yulin Bay submarine base is about 15 km east of Yulin Harbour and Sanya city on the southern tip of Hainan Island. Construction started somewhere in 2000 and continued until 2007. Expansions and additions continued until 2010. The area confined by two breakwaters has a submarine tunnel, four main submarine piers, one large support pier and two long piers for support fleet parking. There are seven high-bay garages with revetments in between, probably for maintenance and repair of missiles. There is also an administrative and residential complex making it a completely independent entity. Submarine tunnel There is a submarine tunnel with an entrance of 16-20 m width. The construction of this tunnel, probably based on a Russian design, had started in 2000. There are at least 30 ground tunnels, possibly interconnected with each other, and the submarine tunnel. A track of 7 m wide (overall) and 1,450 m long rail in between these tunnels has been provided with overhead protection. These tracks are probably for transshipment of munitions. The openings of the three tunnels on the opposite side of the entrance are at different levels from ground, suggesting a huge internal area cleared for various activities of maintenance of submarines and missiles. The openings on the opposite side indicate that internal length of this tunnel is approximately 900-1,000 m, suggesting a space for at least five or six nuclear ballistic missiles carrying submarines. Degaussing facility Every submarine has a certain amount of magnetic field as it is constructed with metal, which becomes accentuated during deployment. This attracts magnetic mines and also makes it easier to identify the location of the submarine. secret locations, most secret,Pine Gap,Australia,Mount Yamantau,Russia,China,Sanya, submarine base,Porton Down,Dugway Proving Ground,Area 51,Area 52,places you aren't allowed to visit, top secret places, most secret places, ufo, alien, aliens,Yulin Naval Base, strange places, secret places,dark5,dark 5,dark5tv,top 5,top 10,Stratfor,geopolitics,analysis,news,Chinese Naval Base,Djibouti Disclaimer- This channel is for defence related news worldwide . Sacrifice Zone: the story of a real Australian gas crisis
The backyard of New South Wales is facing its biggest threat yet – invasive gasfields. Betrayal by governments has meant protectors are fighting to save the things they love. The Pilliga, Great Artesian Basin, Liverpool Plains – all are at risk. This is a David and Goliath battle to save our land, air and water from destruction. It’s also a fight for the soul and future of Australia. In this film we meet the experts and people living in the sacrifice zone and uncover the truth behind the real gas crisis confronting ordinary Australians. PRAISE FOR SACRIFICE ZONE: Sharyn Munro (author, 'Rich Land, Wasteland'): 'Moving and powerful – credible local voices making undeniable sense.' Tina Louise Rothery (UK gas activist): 'Bentley gave us hope we could fight, this gives us no option but to fight.' Jack Mundey (legendary unionist & environmental activist): 'Marvellous film. I couldn't agree more with the action being taken to expose and fight against the undoubted damage to precious water resources if this mining is allowed to proceed.' Bill McKibben (author, co-founder of 350.org): 'Gas is a huge threat to the planet's climate, and hence this film is a great help in the biggest battle the planet faces.' Julie Lyford (Groundswell Gloucester): 'Brilliant – moving and powerful. Send it to all the pollies, media, overseas fracking communities fighting back. Excellent!' Dr Geralyn McCarron (Brisbane G.P.): 'This film taps into a significant and compelling knowledge base and provides a picture of the powerful resistance to the unconventional gas industry in Australia.' Shay Dougall (Hopeland farmer, Human Rights Tribunal Into Unconventional Gas): ' It is magnificent. It is going to be a game-changer. It left me with a will to keep fighting, not feeling so alone and wishing I lived in NSW. Proud to be an Aussie.' Margaret Fleck (Liverpool Plains farmer): 'Brilliant work.' Michele Cullen (Australian gas activist): 'Wonderful. Brought a tear to my eye.' Jo Evans (artist/activist): 'It's brilliant, perfect balance. If I was Santos I'd be very very worried.' Margie Heggie (retired health worker): 'Just watched. In tears. On every level, CSG mining fails to deliver. Why is it that the majority of our leaders refuse to see what is right there in front of them? I despair, but people are starting to listen.' Katherine Marchment (NT gas activist): 'Brilliant brilliant brilliant.' Charlotte Samiec (Chuffed supporter): 'Very much appreciated being able to see this film. Thanks to all the makers and participants. I hope it reaches a huge audience and contributes significantly to the end of CSG mining in Australia for good.' Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil, Backsliders): 'Inspiring and tragic, compelling and utterly convincing. NSW and Queensland's unfolding coal seam gas catastrophe, and the grave danger to the priceless Great Artesian Basin, described in passionate terms by a diverse cast of farmers, firies, boffins, greenies, pollies and First Nations elders. An urgent call-to-arms to save the quality of our water, air and soil, and our international reputation for pristine food production, on some of Australia's finest agricultural land.' Meg Nielsen (farmer, Bentley Gatekeepers): 'This film will be tremendously inspiring to farmers and farming communities all around the world – to empower them and give them confidence to stand up.' Sarah Moles (QLD activist): 'What an inspiring, moving film.' Luke O'Shea (multiple Golden Guitar winner): 'Who are you willing to sacrifice? Australia is at war! The enemy is apathy, short-sightedness, greed and corruption – on an enormous scale – and they are rapidly advancing on many fronts, through many communities. Will you answer the call of your fellow countrymen as they put their lives and livelihoods on the line for the future of YOUR children! Be inspired by these remarkable everyday people featured in this incredible documentary and learn just how powerful 'YOU' can be! YOUR VOICE – YOUR vote – YOUR support – can win this war! HEAR THE CALL!' Angie Gittus (nurse/activist): 'Made me cry – always does seeing our communities fight so freaking hard, against the odds, to protect our planet and our future.' Jill Lyons (local government rep): 'Thank you for an inspiring film, so many amazing reasons why we have to do everything to protect our land, air and all waterways, both above and below.' Judi Summers (Knitting Nannas Against Gas): 'So happy that this incredible film is now online, and free for all to see. Brilliant.' Dr Cynthia D. Moe-Lobeda (Professor of Theological and Social Ethics, USA). 'Breath-taking! "Sacrifice Zone" is a brilliant testimony to hope and moral power for resisting the formidable fossil fuel industry and the danger it poses to life on Earth. Watch this saga of courage and commitment, and be inspired! Show it in classrooms, houses of worship, and seats of government. This film is food for moral fortitude and joy in the face of exploitative power.'

This Bizarre Australian Town Is Impossible To Find, Unless You Know Where To Look
Story Source : boredomtherapy.com/coober-pedy-australia/ Few earthly environments are as formidable and unlivable as our deserts. Scorchingly hot during the day, often frigid at night, it’s the sort of habitat that takes a strong body and a resourceful mind to endure. Still, outside of snakes and scorpions, what sort of thing would choose to live somewhere like that? As it so happens, there are some folks brave enough to do so, but you’d have to head to Australia’s Outback to find them. Not only that—you’d have to look underground! Miles away from any reasonable place to live in southern Australia lies its infamous Outback. The region is known for its treacherous terrain, suffocating heat, and dangerous animals. Not only that, but deep inside its red plains is the town of Coober Pedy. No, literally: the town is inside of them. Chinese military planes enter Korean and Japanese air defense zones
중 군용기 10여대 이어도 한국방공식별 구역 수시간 침범 The Korean military is looking into the aerial intrusion by multiple Chinese military aircraft into Korea's defense identification zone on Monday,... which prompted Seoul to launch its own fighter jets in warning. The area is near a cross-section of zones controlled by Korea, China and Japan. Kim Jung-soo has the details. Seoul's defense ministry said Tuesday... ten Chinese military planes, including six strategic bombers, crossed into Korea's air defense identification zone "several times" on Monday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. An official at the Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters that South Korea reacted to the incursion by sending roughly ten fighter jets -- including F-15Ks and KF-16s -- to the area, which reportedly sent warning signals to the Chinese planes. The Chinese planes made multiple passes into the zone near Ieodo, a submerged rock located off the southern coast of Jeju Island, and went through the Korea Strait into Tsushima Strait in Japan before returning to China via the East China Sea. Japan has since confirmed it spotted eight Chinese planes in its air defense zone, possibly indicating the other two planes turned back for home. A spokesperson for Korea's ministry of defense said China explained its actions by saying the flights were part of a military drill in its own air defense zone. The spokesperson seemed to acknowledge the remarks... when he said China's incursion into Korea's air defense identification zone... is not the same thing as a flight directly over Korean soil... nor is it a violation of its airspace. He also noted that Chinese military planes have entered Korea's air defense zone on multiple occasions since China unilaterally declared its own defense identification zone in November of 2013. The zone overlaps with parts of Korea and Japan's defense identification zones. "I want to clarify that our air defense identification zone is designed to help our forces properly identify anything that enters it, so we can determine if the object or person can come even closer and enter Korean airspace." South Korea's ministry of public safety and security also weighed in on the incursion on Tuesday, saying the number of Chinese vessels entering the defense identification zone is also on the rise, noting it had jumped nearly 65-percent last year from the year before. "While some view China's move as an expression of its objections to the THAAD missile defense system,... South Korea says it is analyzing Beijing's intentions to make sure there are no barriers to bringing the system into the country. Kim Jung-soo, Arirang News." Air Conditioned Shirts and clothing!
Well here it is! An air conditioner mounted in your fashion clothes, shirts or jackets. Don't suffer the heat any more through summer, this crazy but maybe practical solution just maybe the go! See more gadgets and inventions at http://www.flightofthephantom.com Gadgets & Inventions https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLX7-5smcu-VyOonsz86sLL5hz0ugCkwcu Air conditioned clothing is a term for clothing that actively cools down the wearer. It has primarily been used by workers in areas where air conditioning systems cannot be easily installed, such as tunnels, mining and underground construction sites. Air-conditioned clothing on the market does not operate by actually cooling down the air, as a room AC unit does. Instead, it increases the natural body cooling of the wearer by blowing air and sometimes water vapor around the body, decreasing skin temperature by the evaporation of sweat and vapor Attached to the clothing are two lightweight fans that help draw in air and help vaporize sweat. The fans, attached to the back of the clothing near the waist, are about 10 cm wide and run on rechargeable lithium ion batteries. One advantage of air-conditioned clothing is that it requires much less energy to cool people down than to cool down their entire environment. In most cases, the purpose of air-conditioning is not to cool down the objects in the room, but the people. Directly cooling clothing is therefore far more efficient. A 2012 New York Times article reported that gases commonly used in air conditioning absorb some 2,100 times more infrared radiation per ton than carbon dioxide, and due partly to increasing use of air conditioning in the developing world (particularly in tropical areas like India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, and southern China), air conditioning is projected to contribute to some 27% of the overall greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Although there are some ideas for room air conditioning units that do not significantly contribute to climate change, none of those options are yet on the market. Hence, air-conditioned clothing may provide an important alternative to those who wish to keep both themselves, and the planet, cool.

Flawless diamond sold for $26.7 million: World auction record
Find out how much a large rare flawless diamond went for at auction in Switzerland. A large colourless diamond has been sold for a record price of $26.7 million. The pear-shaped jewel was auctioned by Christie's in Geneva. "The 101-carat diamond was purchased by Harry Winston, the firm of Harry Winston which was recently acquired by the Swatch Group for one billion dollars," said Rahul Kadakia, Head of Jewellery for Christie's America and Switzerland. The rare diamond took 21 months to be cut and polished into its current state which has been described by the company as 'flawless' as it registers a weight of 101.73 carats and a D colour standard. It was originally found at the Jwaneng Mine in Botswana, the world's richest diamond mine, which is one of a collection of mines co-owned by the Southern African nation's government and De Beers. His people have responded with violent protests, which could plunge the troubled nation back into chaos. "It's just like raping a woman. They're going to rape our resources." The landowners living along the length of the proposed pipeline have been promised huge benefits from the plan to extract gas from the Southern Highlands and export it to Asia. But they don't believe it and are up in arms: in scenes of chaos fuelled by a legacy of watching promised riches pass them by, they cut down power-lines, wielding guns and blocking roads: "You never listen - I'll chop you people". Ironically, most of the people living in the resource-rich Southern Highlands live without power, without hospitals and without education. The MD of Australian ‘Oil-Search’- which has a 29% stake in the project - agreed that the money the government has received in the past has not been seen in resource areas”. Project Operator Exxon Mobil refused to comment. But with four dead, the former commander of the PNG Defence Force has confessed to fears that, "we are setting the stage for another Bougainville crisis in the Southern Highlands". Guinea boat crashes into mining vessel, killing at least 10, a dozen still missing
At least 10 people have died and a dozen are still missing after a wooden boat collided with a ship off Guinea’s southern coast and capsized, a local official said. The Nation reported that a pirogue-style wooden boat was severely overcrowded and carrying over 60 people when the accident occurred. The boat’s engine failed, according to the Wall Street Journal, with the waves of the river carrying the boat directly into the side of a mining vessel nearby. Rescue crews say 18 people were rescued, but at least 10 were killed with at least a dozen more still missing. Boats are a common form of transport in the country's coastal areas, but lax enforcement of safety regulations has resulted in many boat wrecks, Reuters reports.

China gets back road equipment
Machinery used by China for construction of a road on the Indian side of the border in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh have been handed over to Beijing. According to residents of Bising village in Upper Siang, the army had handed over the machinery and there will be a flag meeting though the venue has not been decided yet. One of the villagers said: “The Chinese army entered our territory from the left of the Siang river by constructing a road using heavy machineries.” Construction was stopped by Joney Yaing, a resident of Zirdo village near Bising, and his fellow villagers. Later, the Indian army reached there and Chinese troops left the spot leaving behind the equipment. The Sino-Indian border is represented by a “Line of Actual Control”. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said on Wednesday he was not aware of the matter, adding that his country has never recognised Arunachal Pradesh as a state in India. China claims the area as part of southern Tibet. The All Bogang Students’ Union, a leading students’ organisation from Pasighat, and several other organisations in Arunachal Pradesh, have recently condemned activities carried out by the Chinese army by constructing a road near the Sinungla pass in Bising village in Upper Siang. They demand an initiative at the international level to China’s activities there. Yaing said: “We are Indians and we, the people on the border in the frontier state, will protect the country. We will not concede a single inch of land to China. We are waiting for the flag meeting. China has constructed roads, telecommunication and developed other infrastructure up to Medong on their side but we do not have proper road connectivity,” AAPSU demand: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), the apex students’ body of Arunachal Pradesh, has sought the attention of the Centre and the state government to alleged Chinese incursion in Tuting sector in Upper Siang. Villagers alleged that a Chinese road-building team had entered India with excavators on December 28. The apex students’ body said that repeated claims and incursions by China clearly undermined India’s sovereignty and the mute response by New Delhi reflects its ambiguity on the issue. The AAPSU demanded proactive response from the state government and the Centre to protect the indigenous people. Afghan Overdose. Inside opium trade
Afghanistan is the world’s biggest exporter of black-market opium from which heroin is made. It’s a multi-billion dollar business, responsible for around a hundred thousand deaths every year and it’s a major source of income for terrorists. RT Doc travelled to the poppy fields where death is harvested to find out why no one can put a stop to this deadly trade. When it comes to heroin, a non-intervention policy is still going strong in Afghanistan where over 90% of the world’s black market opium is produced. Most finds its way onto the international drug market and the profits fund organized crime and terrorist groups like ISIS, which is growing in strength here. The dealers and manufacturers aren’t hard to find: they live in luxurious houses, have fields blooming with poppies and sell their narcotic wares in broad daylight. Even so, they still manage to evade arrest. Poppy fields are destroyed and drugs seized but it’s only ever the middle men who are punished, not the drug lords. There’s been a NATO military presence in the country for 14 years now but still, drugs production continues to grow. Local people suffer from the drug business too, around 18% of the capital’s population are drug addicts. The places where drugs are sold and used are well known but the police are powerless to act. Mafia wars drive civilians from their land in the southern regions, forcing them into refugee camps in their own country. Opium growers get rich by plunging fellow citizens into the depths of misery. RT Doc’s investigative team visited Afghanistan to document the Police’s losing battle against opium producers and its effect on the rest of the country. They talk to police officers, drug users and opium growers in search of a fuller picture and to ask why this massive and life-destroying industry continues to flourish. ABN Newswire Australian Market Report Nov 22, 2010: Globe Metals & Mining (ASX:GBE) HREE Discovery
Globe Metals and Mining Limited (ASX:GBE) reported laboratory chemical results for the maiden RC drilling program at the Machinga Rare Earth Project in southern Malawi, a joint venture with Resource Star Limited (ASX:RSL). Drilling results show multiple mineralised zones containing high grades of heavy rare earth elements, and in particular the high value and much sought after element dysprosium. Heavy rare earth ratio averaged 33% with a peak of 39% and dysprosium grades averaged 375 ppm with a peak result of 971 ppm. A program of reconnaissance ground radiometric and soil sampling to test other targets at Machinga has begun in preparation for further drilling in 2011. Empire Resources Limited (ASX:ERL) has discovered ironstone outcrops containing anomalous nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum and palladium at the Company's Yuinmery copper-gold project in Western Australia. It is believed that the new outcrops, which cover a strike length of approximately 350 metres and up to 48 metres wide, are prospective for nickel and copper sulphide mineralization. RC drill testing of this copper-nickel target and up to seven other volcanogenic massive sulphide targets is scheduled to commence this month. South Boulder Mines Limited (ASX:STB) has intersected further highly encouraging massive Ni-Cu-PGE sulphides at the Rosie Prospect in Western Australia. The strike length of the high grade mineralisation zone is currently about 250m and is open in most directions. DHTEM logging of the drillholes is underway with drilling and scoping study work continuing. Energia Minerals Limited (ASX:EMX) has successfully completed a program of aircore drilling within its 100%-owned Nyang and Onslow Uranium Projects in Western Australia. Geochemical analysis has commenced with all analytical results expected by early January 2011. Initial evaluation of the drilling programme suggests that drilling has extended the anomalous zone for at least 2km to the south of the current Inferred JORC compliant Mineral Resource of 12.2 million tonnes at 280ppm U3O8 for 7.46 million pounds U3O8 for the Carley Bore deposit.

Missing MH370 flight: blackbox search mission underway
A total of 10 aircraft and 10 ships will be involved in search operations to find the black box of missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370. The new search area is about 1,850 km west from Perth, which is closer to Australia's coast than the previous one, and therefore easier to reach, CNN reported. HMAS Success and HMAS Toowoomba, seven Chinese ships and a merchant vessel are now combing the water in search of debris from the missing plane. Transport dock Kunlunshan, supply ship Qiandaohu, and the missile destroyer Haikou, will be responsible for searching the southern part of the new area, Xinhua reported. While Haixun 01, Nanhaijiu 115 and Donghaijiu 101 will search in the northern part. The aircrafts joining the search efforts reportedly come from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, South Korea, the US and Malaysia. The Australian Defence Vessel Ocean Shield, fitted with a black box detector will also leave Perth today. Some parts of the search zone are expected to be affected by low cloud and rain, but according to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, despite the bad weather the search operations are expected to continue. The MH370 flight has been missing since March 8 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and the battery on black box pingers attached to black boxes are certified to last 30 days. While some experts say the clock is ticking, US navy supervisor of salvage and diving Captain Mark Matthews said the battery would last around 45 days instead of 30 days, giving more time to searchers for its detection.

(HD) Watching Airplanes 90+ Mins. Imperial Hill, TBIT Los Angeles Int'l Airport LAX Plane Spotting
Welcome back to another edition of planespotting here on the O'HareAviation YouTube channel! I love LAX and had an errand to run for a friend, ...accomplished southern California spotter and all-around avgeek, Alex of Aviation35 on Instagram... so I decided to spend a few days soaking up the sun and visiting one of my favorite plane watching venues in all the world. Be sure to check out Alex's Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/aviation35/ if you are on Instagram. A well-followed account with excellent aviation pictures! I elected not to go spotting at In-N-Out Burger this time due to the 6L-24R closure, but I did do some terminal spotting from Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT). It has been a long time since I've seen spotting conditions this good at LAX... the air was clear without almost any haze and you can see the Hollywood sign in some of these shots and they have tried to clean the TBIT terminal windows it appears. Also... Ganamos! Very happy to congratulate the Dodgers Major League Baseball team on making it to the MLB World Series for the first time in 29 years. A shout-out to the Petros and Money Show of AM570 KLAC, I've been a faithful listener to the show since 2009 and my grandmother has been a devoted Dodger fan for many, many years. Why India is unable to bring back 28 sailors & 2 choppers Maldives doesn’t want
This video shows you that Why India is unable to bring back 28 sailors & 2 choppers Maldives doesn’t want. Support Us: Buy Smartphone: https://amzn.to/2NZG9hK OnePlus 6: https://amzn.to/2OtbHhf Honor 7x: https://amzn.to/2Kg98f1 For the past 38 days, a detachment of 28 Indian sailors and two Indian helicopters are stranded in the Maldives as the visas of the personnel expired on 30 June. The sailors are part of the contingent that was to bring the choppers back home. The government of President Abdulla Yameen has refused to renew their visas. The Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters (Dhruv ALH) were gifted to the Maldives in 2013 but the Yameen government earlier this year made it clear that India should take them back, setting a deadline of 30 June. One of the choppers is in Gan, on the southern tip of the Maldives, in a lagoon named Addu, and the other in Kaddhoo, an island on the northern tip of the country. The decision of Maldives to return the choppers has come as the relationship between the two countries has frayed in recent years. Chinese investments are pouring into the island nation. And last month, the Pakistani army chief met Yameen and told him that Islamabad will gift him two landing craft (amphibious vehicles). Weather, history and geopolitics Other attempts by India to retrieve its craft and personnel have been hit by weather, history and geopolitics. “The simplest thing to do now that we have a LEMOA (Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement) would be to fly the helicopters to Diego Garcia, just 50 nautical miles from Addu,” a defence forces official told The Print. But politics and diplomacy have cut in. Syrian army advances in Southern countryside
Syrian government forces have made further advances against Daesh terrorists, regaining control over nearly two dozen towns and farms around the city of Raqqah. During their operations, the Syrian Army reportedly killed hundreds of terrorists and destroyed their vehicles and tanks. The U-S backed forces have also made advances against Daesh terrorists in the city of Raqqah. A spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces or S-D-F has reported their advances but noted that the mines left by the terrorists slowed down their progress towards the city center. Meanwhile, the S-D-F has accused the Syrian government of bombing their positions, southwest of the flashpoint city, in recent days. They also threatened to retaliate if the attacks continue. The force, which is made up of Kurdish and Arab militants, has taken territory to the west, east and north of the Daesh strong hold. Officials estimate that thousands of takfiri terrorists remain in the city. Lao NEWS on LNTV: Govt may lift ban on mining, land concessions ahead of schedule.12/6/2014
VO VientianeTimes: Govt may lift ban on mining, land concessions ahead of schedule INTRO: The government may revoke a suspension and resume the approval of new investment proposals in mining or land concessions for rubber and eucalyptus plantations as part of efforts to boost growth over the next two years, although in a more limited capacity than before the ban. STORY: According to the English leading newspaper in the country Vientiane Times which publishes on Tuesday the 10th of June detailing that, the government has realised it may not be able to maintain a blanket ban on all approvals and will instead proceed more cautiously by carrying out proper strategic forecasts. Director of the Investment Promotion Department's Legal Division of the Ministry of Planning and Investment Ms Thavichanh Thiengthepvongsa said during a seminar held last week at the Vientiane Times office in Vientiane that the government will promote quality investment by approving only one or two projects in each province or region. It is noted tha, the government suspended approvals for any new investments in mining or land concessions for rubber and eucalyptus plantations in 2012 after learning that many investors had breached agreements and relevant laws. As some projects had impacted the country's environment and livelihoods of local people the government said it would consider any proposals on these kinds of projects until December 31 next year. The suspension has given the government time to review its policies and assess the effectiveness of existing projects to make sure Laos can maximise its benefits from the sectors. Some of the problems that were occurring were due to a lack of land surveys and proper allocation, as well as details on how many hectares of land investors were really using and whether it was the amount of land agreed upon in their original proposals. According to the ministry, Laos has approved 4,492 land concession investment projects since 1988 across many sectors, with a total value of over US$24.8 billion. Of the total investment in the country, the mining sector ranked as the most valuable, with 299 projects worth more than US$7.1 billion. It was followed by hydroelectricity, which had 46 projects worth over US$6.6 billion; then agriculture, with 985 projects worth over US$2.7 billion; and finally by the service sector, with 664 projects worth over US$2.5 billion. Private sector investment has contributed to the continued growth of the country's economy and poverty reduction. For instance, average GDP growth reached between 7.5 and 8 percent from 2006-10 and has sat at 8 percent since 2011. According to a government report last year, a total of 212 rubber and eucalyptus plantation projects were approved covering an area of 574,534 hectares with a total investment value of around US$1.65 billion. Of the 212 projects, 35 were approved by the central government and the rest by local authorities. A total of 201 were rubber plantations. The government is reviewing the performance of these projects to assess their social and environmental impact on the country and ensure that reasonable revenue has been collected. It is looking to determine whether the investment in these sectors has brought real benefits for Laos and its people.
