Mongols Shirts and Crash Course Posters! http://store.dftba.com/collections/crashcourse In which John Green wraps up revolutions month with what is arguably the most revolutionary of modern revolutions, the Industrial Revolution. While very few leaders were beheaded in the course of this one, it changed the lives of more people more dramatically than any of the political revolutions we've discussed. So, why did the Industrial Revolution happen around 1750 in the United Kingdom? Coal. Easily accessible coal, it turns out. All this, plus you'll finally learn the difference between James Watt and Thomas Newcomen, and will never again be caught telling people that your blender has a 900 Newcomen motor. Life After Mining: Farmland

03:17
What happens to land after it is mined for coal? Well, at the Rosebud Coal Mine near Colstrip, MT the answer is reclamation. After mining is completed the land is restored and converted back into either its natural state, or highly productive cropland just like the land featured in this video. The reclamation practices being implemented at the Rosebud Coal Mine are living proof that mining CAN be done responsibly. The crop featured here is called Sainfoin. In our newest video "Life After Mining: Farmland," we learn more about it and the people who are growing it in the middle of the Rosebud Mine area. Please SHARE this video with your friends to let them know that there IS life after mining!

British India During World War 1 I THE GREAT WAR Special

09:08
India was part of the British Empire during World War 1 and it was of vital importance to the war effort. Resources, manufacturing power and over 1,3 million men that served in the Army meant a great price for India to pay during the war. But even before the conflict, the call for independence grew louder and louder. » HOW CAN I SUPPORT YOUR CHANNEL? How we treat coal mine water

00:28
When a coal mine is closed the water level within the mine recovers over time and picks up naturally occurring minerals from the rocks, such as iron. This can coat river beds, stopping plant growth, causing wildlife to move on as they no longer have food. We treat coal mine water to prevent this from happening.

Iron, Steel and Oil - The Fight For Resources I THE GREAT WAR Week 18

08:49
Four months after the outbreak of the war, a new objective develops: the fight for the most valuable resources. The modern warfare and its war machines need one thing more than anything: Oil, iron, steel or cole can be a matter of life and death. The British advance into the Ottoman Empire and conquer the city Basra. Their goal is to secure their drilling facilities at the Arab Gulf. Meanwhile, the situation at the front is gridlocked, especially in the trenches on the Western Front. The communication and organisation in the trenches becomes far more complex in course of time. World's Deepest Mine - Gold Alchemy

04:51
South Africa's TauTona mine, real life alchemy, and Halicephalobus Mephisto. Footage from the 2012 documentary, "Down to the Earth's Core". We have travelled into space and looked deep into the universe's depths, but the world beneath our feet remains unexplored and unseen. Now, that's about to change. For the first time in one epic unbroken shot, we embark on an impossible mission - using spectacular computer generated imagery to smash through three thousand miles of solid rock, and venture from our world into the underworld and on to the core of the Earth itself. It's a journey fraught with danger. One thousand feet down we find ourselves inside one of the planet's most volatile places - the San Andreas Fault. Caught between two huge rock slabs, we watch as stress builds and then releases. It unleashes an earthquake and blasts us on towards rivers of molten rock, explosive volcanoes, tears in the Earth's crust and giant tornadoes of liquid metal. But for every danger, there are wonders beyond imagination. Four hundred feet below the surface, a three hundred million year old fossilized forest, with every leaf and every piece of bark perfectly preserved. At one thousand feet down we enter a cave of giant crystals, glistening in deadly 122 degree heat. More than two miles underground we find buried treasure - gold and gems. Deeper still there are valuable resources - salt, oil, coal and iron. And over one hundred miles down we see the sparkling beauty of diamonds. As we descend we piece together our planet's extraordinary story. We rewind time to discover how prehistoric forests became modern-day fuel. 1700 feet down a layer of rock reveals the extraordinary story of the dinosaurs' cataclysmic death. We watch stalactites form and gold grow before our eyes. The deeper we travel into the underworld the more we understand our world above the surface. A bigger picture takes shape - a cycle of destruction and creation, driven by the core that sustains our dynamic planet and makes the Earth the only planet with life in a seemingly lifeless universe. Until, finally, three thousand miles down, we reach the core. Inside it lie the secrets of life as we know it - the magnetic force field that protects life on Earth from the sun's deadly rays, the ancient heat source that keeps our planet alive. Down to the Earth's Core brings the latest science together with breathtaking computer generated imagery. The result is an unmissable journey into an extraordinary world - full of dangers, wonders and secrets. And it's all down there, beneath our feet, right now waiting to be discovered.

Indiana Governor Daniels proclaims big support for coal gasification

10:00
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels signed a bill into law 3/24 which forces the state to purchase the output of a proposed coal gasification plant in Rockport, IN, already one of the most polluted communities in the nation. He then went to Rockport to party with plant supporters but had to answer some questions from Valley Watch, president, John Blair as well as Spencer County citizens For Quality of Life, member, David Finley. Daniels stopped short of being a complete climate change denier but clearly showed he is not going to do anything that might jeopardize the increased use of coal in Indiana. LS&I Railroad: Unloading the Marquette Ore Dock (Remastered Version)

16:21
If it wasn’t for the Toledo War, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula probably wouldn’t look like it does today. With lighthouses, beach-goers, National Lakeshores, forests, waterfalls, and quaint village towns - one would think they’re in paradise. But not only is the Upper Peninsula beautiful and scenic, it’s also bustling with industry. Since becoming part of the State of Michigan in 1837, the Upper Peninsula - aka “Da UP” - has been a haven for the copper and iron ore mining industries for nearly 180 years. Today, the Cleveland-based Cliffs Natural Resources Company remains as one of the last great iron ore mining organizations in Michigan, with the Empire Mine and the Tilden Mine located in Marquette County. In order to transport the massive quantities of taconite out of the mines, a railroad and an ore dock is needed. Since 1896, the Lake Superior and Ispheming Railroad has been the carrier to complete the job. Starting early in the morning, crews out of Marquette begin shunting empties over a 103 year old, 1,274ft long ore dock. The dock is 74 feet tall and has the capacity to hold 450 carloads of ore, counting the cars already on top of the dock. The ore is distributed through 100 pockets, which can be dropped to load the Great Lakes freighters that serve the dock to capacity. Why This Town Has Been On Fire For 50 Years

03:51
This week Reactions is shining light on why a small town in PA, Centralia, has been on fire for over 50 years. It's because of science. Well, chemistry, technically. In 1962, an underground fire started in the coal-mining town of Centralia, Pennsylvania. Fifty-three years later, that fire still burns. In this week’s episode of Reactions, we explain the history and science behind the Centralia mine fire. Does anyone still live there? How could the fire keep burning for so long, and why hasn’t it been extinguished? From a chemical standpoint, what is fire, anyway? Manufacturers in Indiana make all kinds of cool stuff -- from electric cars and trucks to the latest military fighters to lifesaving medicines -- and our logistics industry makes sure all of it gets where it needs to be on time. But there's a problem: A lot of companies can't find enough qualified workers -- thousands of their employees are retiring every year, and not enough young people have the education and skills to make up the difference. That's where Conexus Indiana and "Dream It. Do It." come in. Conexus is a nonprofit initiative seeking to make the most out of the emerging opportunities in advanced manufacturing and logistics. By combining the state's resources and expertise, we plan to maintain Indiana's position as a leader in these growing and fast-paced advanced manufacturing and logistics industries. One of our biggest challenges is making sure that the next generation of workers has the skills needed to take over the job opportunities in advanced manufacturing and logistics. "Dream it. Do It." is our way of helping you explore and connect with these exciting jobs. Clicking around our sites, you'll learn about the cool jobs and careers out there and the skills you need to go after them -- we've also worked with colleges and schools across Indiana to make sure they're teaching exactly what companies require.

February 5, 1960 - Senator John F. Kennedy at the Lake County Women's Club Breakfast in Gary Indiana

01:04
The Republican "peace and prosperity" is a myth. We are not enjoying a period of peace -- only a period of stagnation and retreat, while America becomes second in missiles -- second in space -- second in education -- and, if we don't act fast and effectively -- second in production and industrial might. We have the most gadgets and the most gimmicks in our history, the biggest TV and tail-fins -- but we also have the worst slums, the most crowded schools and the greatest erosion of our natural resources and our national will. It may be for some, an age of material prosperity -- but it is also an age of spiritual poverty. There is, in short, no time to be lost. The hour has struck. This is the year of our greatest challenge. This is the year of our greatest victory. For it is a time of decision -- a time for Democratic leadership -- a time my friends, for greatness.

In the black community, a division over charter schools

08:23
With the election of Donald Trump, a big proponent of school choice, and his like-minded pick for secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, the topic of charter schools is likely to attract more attention. But among African-American parents and the NAACP, the debate over school choice and its impact on public education is already a heated one. From Memphis, Education Week’s Lisa Stark reports.

Ghost Towns in Pennsylvania, United States - Abandoned Village, Town or City

01:06
Thanks for watching........... 1) Byrnesville 2) Centralia 3) Eckley Miners' Village 4) French Azilum 5) Fricks Locks Historic District 6) Harrison Township 7) Kinzua Creek 8) Masten 9) Pithole 10) Ricketts 11) Tartown Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ghost_towns_in_Pennsylvania The exact definition of a ghost town varies between individuals, and between cultures. Some writers discount settlements that were abandoned as a result of a natural or human-made disaster, using the term only to describe settlements which were deserted because they were no longer economically viable; T. Lindsey Baker, author of Ghost Towns of Texas, defines a ghost town as "a town for which the reason for being no longer exists".[1] Some believe that any settlement with visible tangible remains should not be called a ghost town;[2] others say, conversely, that a ghost town should contain the tangible remains of buildings.[3] Whether or not the settlement must be completely deserted, or may contain a small population, is also a matter for debate.[2] Generally, though, the term is used in a looser sense, encompassing any and all of these definitions. The American author Lambert Florin's preferred definition of a ghost town was simply "a shadowy semblance of a former self". Factors leading to abandonment of towns include depleted natural resources, economic activity shifting elsewhere, railroads and roads bypassing or no longer accessing the town, human intervention, disasters, massacres, wars, and the shifting of politics or fall of empires.[5] A town can also be abandoned when it is part of an exclusion zone due to natural or man-made causes. Ghost towns may result when the single activity or resource that created a boomtown (e.g., nearby mine, mill or resort) is depleted or the resource economy undergoes a "bust" (e.g., catastrophic resource price collapse). Boomtowns can often decrease in size as fast as they initially grew. Sometimes, all or nearly the entire population can desert the town, resulting in a ghost town. The dismantling of a boomtown can often occur on a planned basis. Mining companies nowadays will create a temporary community to service a mine site, building all the accommodation shops and services, and then remove it as the resource is worked out. A gold rush would often bring intensive but short-lived economic activity to a remote village, only to leave a ghost town once the resource was depleted. In some cases, multiple factors may remove the economic basis for a community; some former mining towns on U.S. Route 66 suffered both mine closures when the resources were depleted and loss of highway traffic as US 66 was diverted away from places like Oatman, Arizona onto a more direct path. The Middle East has many ghost towns that were created when the shifting of politics or the fall of empires caused capital cities to be socially or economically non-viable, such as Ctesiphon. Asian Children Suffering from LEAD POISONING Due to Years of ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

23:32
Asian Children Suffering from LEAD POISONING Due to Years of ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION London-listed miner Kazakhmys' ties to a toxic lead plant in its home country are under scrutiny again, in the light of new evidence. The revelations are set to spark questions from MPs on the Business Select Committee, who are looking into the effect of the City of London rolling out the welcome mat to foreign natural resources firms with operations in far-flung countries. The firm has always denied links to the smelter in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, where environmental surveys show dangerous concentrations of lead in the soil and air. The company has stuck to its guns, even after the Mail unearthed footage in 2012 from a local TV channel in which senior Kazakhmys staff celebrated the reopening of the plant after a shutdown. But fresh documents, due to be used in a documentary airing tonight on news channel Al Jazeera English, will cast further doubt on Kazakhmys' attempts to distance itself from Shymkent. The smelter is operated by a company called A-Mega Trading. While Kazakhmys admits supplying the smelter with lead dust for a brief period, it has stopped doing so and says it never had operational or financial ties to A-Mega Trading. But documents obtained from the Kazakh version of Companies House show that A-Mega Trading is registered at an office in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The building is owned by Vertex Holding, which lists its general director as Vladimir Jumanbayev. Jumanbayev is also employed as a 'commercial director' of Kazakhmys, while the firm has its own office in the same building. Hidden camera footage used in the documentary shows A-Mega Trading employees denying ties to Kazakhmys. But one of the employees concedes that she used to work for Jumanbayev's firm Vertex Holding. The emergence of previously unknown links between the companies builds on evidence obtained in 2012 by the Daily Mail. Local TV footage showed Kazakhmys head of copper Edward Ogay and Yerzhan Ospanov celebrating the reopening of the plant. Ospanov said the owner of the plant, a firm called Yuzh Poli Metal, had handed over operational control and that Kazakhmys was taking over the smelter. 'Kazakhmys will take over operational management of production and financial activities in order to avoid production losses and to maximise profit,' he said. If Kazakhmys does control A-Mega Trading, or has gained any financial benefit from it, it should have disclosed this in its annual report -- but A-Mega Trading does not appear in any of the firm's regulatory filings or reports. The Companies Act 2006 also requires disclosure of any potential environmental liabilities that could affect shareholders' investment. This is particularly important in circumstances where a company risks a lawsuit on behalf of multiple people. Tests by the International Task Force for Children's Environmental Health found that 96 per cent of children in the vicinity of the smelter displayed a form of lead poisoning. The Al Jazeera documentary also features children with developmental difficulties that a lead poisoning specialist says could be caused by emissions from the smelter. Kazakhmys says it has never performed an environmental assessment on Shymkent because it 'has never owned or operated the plant'. The firm added it only supplied lead dust to the plant briefly, at the government's request, 'in order to support employment'. Kazakhmys also insists it is constantly updating its environmental plans and has spent £180m to reduce pollution. Campaign group Global Witness said Kazakhmys' explanation of its involvement in Shymkent was unsatisfactory. 'British investors in Kazakhmys plc need to know whether the company could be held liable for any pollution caused by the smelter,' said campaigner Tom Mayne. The Financial Reporting Council has been handed a dossier of information about Kazakhmys' alleged links to A-Mega Trading. The regulator said it had 'not commenced an investigation under its disciplinary scheme in connection with Kazakhmys', although it did not say whether it was looking at the evidence. MPs on the Business Select Committee are expected to discuss the company's links to Shymkent at a meeting next week. The committee has been looking into the City of London's relationship with foreign-owned natural resource firms. Mining firms that have sought the prestige and liquidity afforded by a London listing have recently been under the microscope, including war-torn coal miner Bumi (now renamed Asia Resource Minerals) and Kazakh copper miner ENRC, which has since delisted. Germany "abc news" "cnn news" "fox news" "nbc news" "political news" "ap news" "bbc news" "rt news" "barack obama" 2/19/2014 19/2/2014 lead poisoning children suffer environmental pollution Kazakhmys owned 26 per cent of ENRC until it sold up last year, following allegations of corruption and a Serious Fraud Office probe.

SUBSCRIBE for MORE: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=ALPROFIT Jimmy Hoffa's disappearance is one of the great crimes of the century. Despite a massive Federal investigation spanning 4 decades and hundreds of suspects, only the general contours of the crime are known. In the American mythology Hoffa is both hero and villain; a self-made man who ran the nation's largest union and was so beloved by the rank and file Teamsters he represented that they supported him as union president even as he served time in prison. Hoffa's name is synonymous with corruption thanks to Bobby Kennedy's campaign against him, but the truth is much more complex. Hoffa's glory years coincided with the golden age of the Union movement and the American economy; he also was enmeshed in the Machiavellian world of organized crime. "Killing Jimmy Hoffa" tells the whole story for the first time, using exclusive interviews, never before seen news footage and photographs, and revealing the real story of the day he died. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Original Black Mafia Chronicles part 1 - Motown Mafia" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OkQDEWGnp0 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
