World's Deepest Mine - Gold Alchemy
South Africa's TauTona mine, real life alchemy, and Halicephalobus Mephisto. Footage from the 2012 documentary, "Down to the Earth's Core". We have travelled into space and looked deep into the universe's depths, but the world beneath our feet remains unexplored and unseen. Now, that's about to change. For the first time in one epic unbroken shot, we embark on an impossible mission - using spectacular computer generated imagery to smash through three thousand miles of solid rock, and venture from our world into the underworld and on to the core of the Earth itself. It's a journey fraught with danger. One thousand feet down we find ourselves inside one of the planet's most volatile places - the San Andreas Fault. Caught between two huge rock slabs, we watch as stress builds and then releases. It unleashes an earthquake and blasts us on towards rivers of molten rock, explosive volcanoes, tears in the Earth's crust and giant tornadoes of liquid metal. But for every danger, there are wonders beyond imagination. Four hundred feet below the surface, a three hundred million year old fossilized forest, with every leaf and every piece of bark perfectly preserved. At one thousand feet down we enter a cave of giant crystals, glistening in deadly 122 degree heat. More than two miles underground we find buried treasure - gold and gems. Deeper still there are valuable resources - salt, oil, coal and iron. And over one hundred miles down we see the sparkling beauty of diamonds. As we descend we piece together our planet's extraordinary story. We rewind time to discover how prehistoric forests became modern-day fuel. 1700 feet down a layer of rock reveals the extraordinary story of the dinosaurs' cataclysmic death. We watch stalactites form and gold grow before our eyes. The deeper we travel into the underworld the more we understand our world above the surface. A bigger picture takes shape - a cycle of destruction and creation, driven by the core that sustains our dynamic planet and makes the Earth the only planet with life in a seemingly lifeless universe. Until, finally, three thousand miles down, we reach the core. Inside it lie the secrets of life as we know it - the magnetic force field that protects life on Earth from the sun's deadly rays, the ancient heat source that keeps our planet alive. Down to the Earth's Core brings the latest science together with breathtaking computer generated imagery. The result is an unmissable journey into an extraordinary world - full of dangers, wonders and secrets. And it's all down there, beneath our feet, right now waiting to be discovered.

South Africa's Illegal Gold Mines
In the 1970s, South Africa was the world's most prolific exporter of gold. Over the years, industrial decline has seen widespread closures of the mines across the country. However, Johannesburg sits on the biggest gold basin ever discovered. It's perhaps not surprising that many of these abandoned mines have seen a recent boom in illegal mining activity. Everyday, hundreds of illegal gold miners, known as Zama Zamas, descend kilometers deep beneath the surface. The miners often spend weeks underground, toiling away at the country's untapped gold reserves. Observers have suggested that illegal mining is now so widespread, black-market gold arguably supports the communities once subsistent on the very same mines they worked in before they shut down. The lack of policing in the mines has seen the practice go on largely unabated. However, in the absence of law enforcement, the extensive network of abandoned mines beneath the region has become an arena to deadly gang warfare between rival factions. VICE News visited illegal mines near Johannesburg, to meet the Zama Zamas risking life and limb everyday in the violent struggle for South Africa's illegal gold. Michio Kaku predicts asteroid mining will happen sooner than you think
Good news! We're on the precipice of the next great gold rush... but it won't be in the hills of California. Or anywhere on this planet. It'll be in outer space, as there are untapped rare materials in asteroids that could be used for future technologies. That's right: there's gold in them thar skies! Theoretical physicist and one of our favorite Big Thinkers, Dr. Michio Kaku, explains to us that while China might have a stranglehold on the rare minerals and metals on our planet, there's no stopping interplanetary mining. We've even got an actual plan with actual economics already in place... we just have to wait until NASA's SLS rocket technology fully develops. Michio Kaku's latest book is the awesome The Future of Humanity: Terraforming Mars, Interstellar Travel, Immortality, and Our Destiny Beyond Earth Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/michio-kaku-asteroid-mining-will-happen-sooner-than-you-think Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: When I was researching my book The Future of Humanity I came across a comment made by Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson made the biggest gamble of his life buying the Louisiana Purchase from Napoleon. Napoleon was fighting the British he needed hard cash immediately. He had Louisiana and that whole middle portion of the United States and so Napoleon sold it to Thomas Jefferson for a song. But Thomas Jefferson thought how long would it take to investigate what he had just purchased? He had doubled the size of the USA. Think about that. And he probably violated the Constitution in the process. Everyone forgets that. Everyone glosses over that fact, but hey when Louis and Clark went into the territories that comprised the Louisiana Purchase they found tremendous prospects for wealth and prosperity, but Thomas Jefferson wrote that it may take a thousand years, a thousand years before they could then begin to settle the west. Well, how long did it take? A few decades because what happened? Gold. Gold was discovered in California sparking the gold rush and within just a few years millions of prospectors, settlers, fortune hunters converged on California. It didn’t take a thousand years to develop that. Then the question now is is there going to be a new gold rush in outer space? Some people think so. Some Google billionaires have created an organization, a company, Planetary Resources, that are looking into prospecting in the asteroid belt. Now, asteroids come in all shapes and sizes and we’re cataloging them now and we have already found some perspective asteroids that could be mined. One asteroid perhaps maybe 30/50 feet across brought back down either to the moon or to the planet earth could in fact yield billions of dollars in rewards because of the rare earths and the platinum type medals that you find inside. You see, the electronics industry is dependent upon rare earths. Where are these rare earth elements found it? Mainly in China. They’re everywhere, of course, but China has the most developed market and the Chinese in turn supply on the order of 90 percent of the rare earths. Well, a few years ago they decided to capitalize that and raise the price. All of a sudden shockwaves, shockwaves spread around the earth because people realized that oh my God China has a stranglehold, a stranglehold on high technology. How can you build the next iPhone if you don’t have the rare earths to make the transistors and to make the delicate components of these high tech devices? So I think what’s happening here is that some people see an area for profit and that is asteroid mining. Now of course, the infrastructure for that doesn’t exist, but NASA has looked at its budget and does have a program that has been shelved temporarily to redirect an asteroid. The Asteroid Redirect Program is to send of the SL ass booster rocket into outer space with the Orion capsule. It will then intercept an asteroid and bring it back to orbit around the moon. Then it can be mined as it orbits around the moon or as it’s brought back to planet earth. And so this is now beyond the phase of science fiction. We’re no longer talking about dreaming about an asteroid redirect, we’re talking about an actual plan with the economics, with the details laid out. However, at the present time we have to wait for NASA’s SLS rocket to mature to the point where we can intercept an asteroid.

Dropping an iPhone X Down 4000 FT Deep Hole! - What's In There?
So I dropped the new iPhone X down a 4000+ ft. deep mine hole and recorded it all to see what happens. So here's how my experiment went down. The fishing line I bought was 1329 yards (3987 ft.) When the line ran out I was pretty disappointed thinking it's just dangling but the iPhone footage shows it seems to have hit something. I assume the line just kept unraveling despite the phone landing, unless it just landed on a ledge or something and actually was 4000 feet deep? Hard to tell but after the initial 2-3 second drag delay, the iPhone was going down pretty fast and for like a good three minutes. Why renewables can’t save the planet | Michael Shellenberger | TEDxDanubia
Environmentalists have long promoted renewable energy sources like solar panels and wind farms to save the climate. But what about when those technologies destroy the environment? In this provocative talk, Time Magazine “Hero of the Environment” and energy expert, Michael Shellenberger explains why solar and wind farms require so much land for mining and energy production, and an alternative path to saving both the climate and the natural environment. Michael Shellenberger is a Time Magazine Hero of the Environment and President of Environmental Progress, a research and policy organization. A lifelong environmentalist, Michael changed his mind about nuclear energy and has helped save enough nuclear reactors to prevent an increase in carbon emissions equivalent to adding more than 10 million cars to the road. He lives in Berkeley, California. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Minaurum Gold Optimistic About Guerrero Gold Belt - Mining Minutes - Kitco News
Kitco's Alex Letourneau welcomes David Jones, senior geologist and director at Minaurum Gold, to discuss exploration in the Guerrero Gold Belt region in Mexico. Since the 1980's, the discovery rate in the region has been consistently at 600,000 ounces per year. Minaurum Gold has 3 projects underway covering 18,000 hectares of land within 20km of Goldcorp's Los Filos mine in the same region. Jones claims that although many deposits are "blind discoveries" with very little surface indications, he remains optimistic about the region as there are no signs of abatement to its consistent discovery rate. Minaurum is confident in finding investors as its operating costs sit at $30,000 per month and as it plans to drill 7000 meters along the belt. Kitco News, April 11, 2013. Inside El Chapo’s Escape Tunnel
Infamous drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who daringly escaped prison on July 11, utilized a tunnel leading from the only “supermax” maximum-security prison in Mexico, where he'd been held. At least that's the explanation Mexican authorities have given as to how the leader of the Sinaloa cartel escaped prison for the second time. In the aftermath of the escape, VICE News went to Almoloya de Juarez to inspect the exit of the tunnel that “El Chapo" allegedly used, and spoke with an activist and former inmate of Altiplano prison who claims to have discovered flaws in the authorities’ version of events. News Update: Chilean Plan B Drill Nears Trapped Miners, Within 100 Meters
One of the rescue drills which is being used to reach 33 trapped miners in Chile is within 100 meters of the chamber, sources indicated. The source, which requested to remain nameless, said that the miners are in contact with the outside world using a small bore hole that is being used to send them food, water, supplies and other necessary resources. The miners have been trapped in the chamber since August 5th, waiting for the rescue teams to drill down to them. The rescue attempts include three different drilling plans, A, B and C. Plan B needs to reach 624 meters to get the men and was at 519 meters as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, officials said. Officials had to stop drilling Wednesday after hitting 535 meters, at which point miners placed a camera in the mine to check the mine's conditions. Meanwhile, a plan B drill bit was destroyed last month after it collided with a beam in the mine. The Plan A drill's advance was suspended temporarily to change its bit. Once the Plan B drill resumes work, at its current rate of progress it could break through to the men in the next several days.

Tilt down Drill T 130 plan B STORYLINE Rescuers in Chile on Tuesday were able to retrieve pieces of the shattered second drill and iron beam from the hole, as operations continued to free 33 miners who have been trapped for weeks underground in a northern Chile mine. That faster second drill was halted for 6 days by the obstruction. Rescuers broke into applause when a specially designed device was able to grab and retrieve the chunk of metal. On Monday only one of three drilling efforts was operational : the so-called Plan A drill, reaching down to 750 feet (230 meters). But it too must stop at 820 feet (250 meters), for maintenance work. Plan B, a higher-velocity drill that will carve out a narrower escape tunnel, has been silenced since last week, when it struck an iron support beam for the mine and its drill bit shattered into small pieces. A third drill, Plan C, is still days away from starting its work. "During the night, we sent a device that was designed especially for the rescue. It can capture the piece and around midnight we were able to completely take out the piece. There fore we can say the Plan B shaft is clear of the pieces of the broken bit that was blocking our advance," said Rene Aguilar, Equipment Manager for Rescue. The setback has caused anxiety among the men trapped by a mine collapse, who had been cheered by the sound of the constant hammering of the second drill as it bored through solid rock. In talks with their families over a fibre optic line rescuers dropped through one of the narrow bore-holes, they demanded explanations from authorities, who have struggled to strike a balance between can-do optimism and the reality that the miners may remain stuck a half-mile below ground for months. With frustration growing, so is pressure for alternative solutions. If the conditions are right, he suggested, dynamite might be used to blast a passage open. Government begins clampdown on recalcitrant illegal mining firms
Government has issued a new 30-day ultimatum for all illegal miners to remove all excavators from illegal mining sites in the country. The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Peter John Amewu, said the directive, is to prevent a possible return of the illegal miners in the months ahead.
Goomeroi calls a halt to mining country
The Goomeroi people of New South Wales call for a freeze on all mining and development on their ancestral lands. More that 400 Native Title claimants met in Tamworth to discuss Goomeroi business in Tamworth at the weekend. Representatives said that they are looking at options to stop ministerial decisions which approve mining in the region. Goomeroi is one of the largest black states in the country NITV was given permission to film inside the meeting but it was outside after the function ended that the big news of plans to freeze development on Goomeroi country became public. Anthony Monroe, Goomeroi claimant, said that the Goomeroi people will not be silent regarding the issues anymore. Mining is coming to our country and we are going to fight them every step of the way, through the courts, through the protests and through the solidarity. The Goomeroi are concerned that big industries could damage their sacred sites and dreaming places through Mining, Cold Stream Gas extraction, excess of water use and clearing. It what might be the first time in Australia's history, an injunction may be used to stop ministerial powers both federally and at state levels that will approve development plans until Native Title is determined. Michael Anderson, a Goomeroi elder and spokesperson for the 'Sovereign Union' said Native title has not been extinguished on underground and surface waters. He said "Native Title has never been extinguished on our trees, plants, animals and everything else. We don't care what title you've got but we are not going to let you destroy our connections, our totemic associations and all those things it'll freeze up everything". This could lead to the region being temporarily quarantining. The implications to the New South Wales Land Council is that the mining explorations that have been applied for, will also be frozen, Mr Anderson said The resource rich area is seen by industry as the future backbone of wealth in New South Wales, he said, and he hopes this action will inspire others around the country to also take a lead in determining mining developments. Washington’s Wenatchee Valley Is Hot On Bitcoin Mining - Uniquely NW News
Bitcoin. Cryptocurrency. Digital wallets. The future is now, and it’s happening in Central Washington’s Wenatchee Valley and Chelan County. Bitcoin mining is a relatively new term, with old ties: People rush to a “hot” area and try to capitalize on a trend. Now, in 2018, entrepreneurs are flocking to Central Washington state for its extremely cheap electricity thanks to regional hydropower projects. They set up shop – legally and illegally – and use huge amounts of electricity running servers non-stop to find Bitcoin opportunities online. Northwest News Network correspondent Tom Banse has been covering it…as well as larger regional transportation and infrastructure issues. India's Sand Mafia: The Dark Secrets of India's Booming Construction Industry
India's building boom has spawned an illegal trade in sand. Plundering the environment and even killing those who get in its way, the "sand mafia" has spread its influence throughout India. Subscribe to Journeyman here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures Sand is the key to the construction industry, but there is no legal supply to meet the increasing demand. Accordingly, criminal gangs are ravaging riverbeds and beaches. Sumaira Abdulali recounts the damage done to her local beach: "the whole level of sand has dropped by about 10 feet ... They’ve really destroyed it". When she tried to report the perpetrators, she was met with fierce resistance. "They bashed up the car, broke everything. They hit all of us. They broke my teeth." Sumaira now campaigns to expose this black-market trade, which harms many living near sand supplies. Brijmohan Yadav, like many farmers in his region, had his plot devastated by illegal sand mining. However, his complaints were ignored: "the mafia is so influential. They have police and local authorities on their side". Brijmohan began to fight for his land, but ended up fighting for his life. "These people kidnapped me and took me to an isolated place. They beat me up and threatened to kill me if I did not stop all this." Whilst there is an almost blanket ban on unlicensed mining across India, in remote, rural areas it continues unabated. Sea level rise is so much more than melting ice
While researching climate change, we heard something confusing: the sea level in New York City is rising about one and a half times faster than the global average. We couldn’t figure out what that meant. Isn’t the sea level...flat? So we called up an expert and went down the rabbit hole. And, we did our best to visualize her truly bizarre answers with animations, dioramas, and a lot of melting ice. 🔥China has successfully mined flammable ice at sea after nearly two decades of research work. 🔥The flammable ice was discovered in the South China Sea in 2007. 🔥According to Chinese state run Xinhua, one cubic metre of combustible ice is equal to 164 cubic metres of natural regular gas. It is formed when water and methane gas combine at temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius and pressures 30 times greater than normal atmospheric pressure. 🔥The formation of the flammable ice requires a sufficiently high pressure and low temperature. 🔥Most flammable ice is found at depths between 1,640 and 9,800 feet and is a white colour, close to that of normal water ice. 🔥When it is released from the sea floor, the methane gas is then released and can then be ignited. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4518426/Beijing-claims-landmark-success-mining-flammable-ice.html ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★    🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷 ❤❤SUPPORT MY CHANNEL & WORK HERE⤵❤❤           https://www.patreon/JamesMunder ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ ✔NEWS, ✔LAUGHS & A Couple Other Things...   Trying To Figure Out What's Really Going On ✔
