Occurrence and principles of extraction of gold Atomic mass : 196.97 Valency : 1 and 3 Atomic number : 79 Symbol : Au Position in the periodic table : Period Number -6, Group Number -11. Occurrence Gold is mainly found in the native state either mixed with quartz in ancient rocks (vein gold) or scattered in sand and gravel (placer gold) or in the alluvial sand (alluvial gold). Ores The important ore of gold is Alluvial sand or gravel Nearly half of the total world production of gold comes from the mines in South Africa. India occupies 8th position among the gold producing countries of the world and account for about 2% of the total world production. The Kolar mines in Karnataka produce about 99.97% of our gold output. Extraction from Gold Ores - Mac Arthur Forrest Cyanide Process. The extraction of gold from the sulphide or telluride ore involves the following steps : i) Crushing, grinding and concentration The gold ore is crushed and powdered, and then concentrated by frothfloatation process. ii) Roasting The concentrated ore is roasted in excess of air or oxygen when impurities of sulphur, arsenic and tellurium are oxidised and escape as their volatile oxides. iii) Treatment with KCN The finely powdered roasted ore is taken in large vats made up of cement or iron and having false wooden bottoms with holes. It is then treated with a dilute (0.5%) solution of KCN in presence of excess of air for 24 hours. As a result, gold dissolves in KCN to form a soluble complex called potassium aurocyanide. Gold plus potassium cyanide plus water plus oxygen gives Potassium aurocyanide plus potassium hydroxide. iv) Precipitation of gold The above solution containing potassium aurocyanide is filtered to remove insoluble impurities and then treated with zinc dust. Gold being less electropositive than zinc, it gets precipitated. Potassium aurocynade plus zinc gives potassium tetracyano zincate plus gold. The precipitated gold is recovered by filtration .It is further purified by electrorefining. iv) Electrolytic refining This method is used when very pure gold is required. The impure gold is made the anode while a thin sheet of pure gold acts as the cathode. The electrolyte consists of a solution of auric chloride (AuCl3) acidified with 10-12% HCl. On passing current pure gold gets deposited on the cathode. Physical properties of gold i) Gold is a lustrous yellow metal which melts at 1063°Celcious to a green liquid and boils at 2610°Celcious. ii) It is the most malleable and ductile of all metals. iii) It is a good conductor of heat and electricity. Chemical properties of gold i) Gold is unaffected by dry or moist air or oxygen. ii) Alkalies have no action on gold. iii) With Aquaregia Gold dissolves in aquaregia (3 parts of concentrates Hydrochloric acid plus one part of concentrated nitric acid to form auric chloride. Gold plus hydrochloric acid plus nitric acid gives auric chloride plus nitrosyl chloride. iv) With chlorine At 200°Celcious, gold is readily attacked by chlorine forming auric chloride. Gold plus chlorine gives gold three chloride or auric chloride

Chromite Ore Concentrates Dubai The electric smelting process necessitates the use of a highly permeable lumpy charge for easy dissipation of reaction gases and smooth functioning of furnaces. Therefore the concentrates and fines are agglomerated first, since they cannot be utilised directly. Out of the several agglomeration process, available as alternatives like modulizing, sintering, pelletizing and briquetting, the last is used in this country by three units. Of the four major Charge Chrome units operating, one use “Pelletizing”. Pelletization route is also most used, so far, in other countries of the world.

This video begins by describing why innovation in the mining industry is inherently difficult. We describe how the contributing factors from economic considerations on a macro scale to microscopic chemical behaviour are interlinked and dynamic in nature. Using whole ore treatment of a complex oxidised silicate deposit as an example, we highlight each of the steps in the overall process flow from mining through to metal plating. As a logical starting point we choose the leaching reactor as the first element to model and describe Dynamet Insights’ approach to capturing the physical and chemical dynamics of an atmospheric tank reactor. In the next video (https://youtu.be/0v0dFxki6AY), we show how the leaching model is implemented and we illustrate some basic simulation outputs from this silicate ore leaching example.

WHY ELON MUSK TURNED TO STAINLESS STEEL FOR SPACEX'S STARSHIP MARS ROCKET? Why Spacex Starship motivated for Stainless Steel heat shield? What's scientific reason behind it? SpaceX is working on the initial prototype of the Starship rocket (formerly BFR) that could eventually carry people to the moon and Mars. However, CEO Elon Musk recently announced a significant design revision that seems counterintuitive at first. Instead of aluminum and carbon fiber, the company has decided to build the Starship out of stainless steel. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk shared considerable insight into the thought processes, that ultimately led him to - in his own words -“convince” his team, that the spacex company’s BFR rocket, which now Starship and Super Heavy, should pivot from an advanced composite structure to a relatively common form of stainless steel. In this video, Engineering Today will try to explain, Why Elon Musk Turned to Stainless Steel for SpaceX's Starship Mars Rocket? WHAT DOES SCIENCE SAY about Stainless Steel SpaceX Starship future? Lets gets started. WHAT MOTIVATED THE SWITCH? While the Starship prototype looks like a golden age sci-fi fantasy brought to life, that’s not the ultimate goal. SpaceX is going with a shiny steel design Musk explained what motivated the switch for stainless steel. Musk explains the rocket can be lighter with stainless steel. That’s not the case for stainless steel with high chrome-nickel content. That means stainless steel has high fracture toughness, which could prevent small structural imperfections from developing into cracks. Going with stainless steel also allows SpaceX to work on Musk’s dream of a regenerative heat shield. This probably won’t happen right away, but Musk wants to replace the tiles used on current spacecraft with a stainless steel sandwich. A stainless steel surface can remain completely sound at 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, about five times higher than carbon fiber or aluminum. So, SpaceX could inject water into the space Musk says SpaceX will initially use 301 stainless — that’s similar to the metal used in pots and pans. It doesn’t sound very space age, but SpaceX seems to think it’s the best option. Aside from steel’s relative ease of manipulation and affordability, Musk delved into the technical solution he arrived at for an advanced, ultra-reusable heat shield for Starship Musk is by no means wrong, when he says that a stainless steel sandwich-hulled spaceship regeneratively cooled by microscopic holes, and liquid water or propellant “has never been proposed before”. metallic thermal protection systems (TPS) are already fairly exotic, and unproven in the realm of modern aerospace. While Musk’s solution could dramatically simplify, what is needed for Starship’s high-performance heat shield, a stainless steel sandwich on half of Starship offers another huge benefit: the spacecraft can still gain many of the mass ratio benefits of stainless steel balloon tanks. At the end of the day, Musk very well might be correct when he states that a stainless steel Starship can ultimately be more mass-efficient, “lighter” than a Starship built out of advanced carbon composites, a characteristic he rightly describes as “counterintuitive” Starship’s water-cooled shield. Assuming that the windward side of Starship’s regeneratively cooled heat shield, thermal protection (TPS). water during potential Starship reentries. Assuming that Starship will need to rely heavily on aerobraking to maintain efficient interplanetary operations. Given that SpaceX intends (at least as of September 2018) for Starship to be able to land more than 100 tons on the surface of Mars, 15t of water would cut drastically into payload margins, and is thus likely an unfeasibly large mass reserve or any given interplanetary mission. Conclutions The assumptions needed for this calculations do mean that 30 tons is an absolute worst case scenario for a regeneratively cooled Starship reentry, given that SpaceX may only have to vigorously cool a small fraction of its windward surface needed by allowing Starship’s steel skin to heat quite a lot, while still staying well below its melting point, likely around 800°C, 1500°F or higher. This also fails to account for the fact, that a regeneratively-cooled stainless steel heat shield, would effectively let SpaceX do away with what would otherwise be a massive and heavy ablative heat shield and mounting mechanism. Perhaps the benefits of stainless steel might ultimately mean that, carrying around 10-30 tons of coolant is actually performance-neutral or a minimal burden, when all costs and benefits are properly accounted for. Musk clearly believes with almost zero doubt that a stainless steel Starship and booster Super Heavy is the way forward for the company’s BFR program, For now, all we can do is watch as the first Starship prototype

Big Learning Workshop: Algorithms, Systems, and Tools for Learning at Scale at NIPS 2011 Invited Talk: Machine Learning's Role in the Search for Fundamental Particles by Daniel Whiteson Daniel Whiteson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at UC Irvine. His research area is experimental particle physics, using data from the world's most powerful colliders to answer questions about the fundamental nature of matter and interactions at the smallest scales. He has a long-standing interest in machine learning and has collaborated with machine learning researchers to apply new ideas to the problems of particle physics. Abstract: High-energy physicists try to decompose matter into its most fundamental pieces by colliding particles at extreme energies. But to extract clues about the structure of matter from these collisions is not a trivial task, due to the incomplete data we can gather regarding the collisions, the subtlety of the signals we seek and the large rate and dimensionality of the data. These challenges are not unique to high energy physics, and there is the potential for great progress in collaboration between high energy physicists and machine learning experts. I will describe the nature of the physics problem, the challenges we face in analyzing the data, the previous successes and failures of some ML techniques, and the open challenges.

"Chromium" is a chemical element with symbol "Cr" and atomic number 24. It is the first element in Group 6. It is a steely-gray, lustrous, hard and brittle metal which takes a high polish, resists tarnishing, and has a high melting point. The name of the element is derived from the Greek word χρῶμα, "chrōma", meaning color, because many of its compounds are intensely colored. Chromium oxide was used by the Chinese in the Qin dynasty over 2,000 years ago to coat metal weapons found with the Terracotta Army. Chromium was discovered as an element after it came to the attention of the Western world in the red crystalline mineral crocoite chromate), discovered in 1761 and initially used as a pigment. Louis Nicolas Vauquelin first isolated chromium metal from this mineral in 1797. Since Vauquelin's first production of metallic chromium, small amounts of native chromium metal have been discovered in rare minerals, but these are not used commercially. Instead, nearly all chromium is commercially extracted from the single commercially viable ore chromite, which is iron chromium oxide . Chromite is also now the chief source of chromium for chromium pigments. Chromium metal and ferrochromium alloy are commercially produced from chromite by silicothermic or aluminothermic reactions, or by roasting and leaching processes. Chromium metal has proven of high value due to its high corrosion resistance and hardness. A major development was the discovery that steel could be made highly resistant to corrosion and discoloration by adding metallic chromium to form stainless steel. This application, along with chrome plating currently comprise 85% of the commercial use for the element, with applications for chromium compounds forming the remainder. In this video I convert a $35 action camera to use inexpensive (and awesome) c-mount lenses. Thanks to LastPass for sponsoring this video! Click here to try LastPass for FREE: http://bit.ly/2huNj2L The specific action camera used in this video is HEIHEI brand, but the exact same style of camera can be found under dozens of brand names. Chances are if you purchase a camera that claims 16mp photos and 4k video resolution (at 15fps) it will be the same or adequately similar in design that this modification will go smoothly. You can find these cameras even cheaper than the $35 I paid for mine. Here is an ebay search results link that should turn up a lot of options (This is an affiliate link. Results are filtered for cameras under $40): http://ebay.to/2h8dd8A Here is another affiliate link where you can find c-mount extension tubes: http://ebay.to/2wituCk And another one for a few c mount lenses. I particularly like the Computar 8.5mm f/1.3 lens on this camera (I also like the Computar 6mm f/1.2, and the Fujian 25mm, 35mm, and 50mm. Tons of great inexpensive c mount lenses out there!): http://ebay.to/2vZd79m A big thank you to my Patreon supporters for having just pushed past my $300 support goal! If you would like to become one of my Patreon supporters yourself you can check out my page here: https://www.patreon.com/NightHawkProjects A lot of you will probably notice a number of black spots on my action camera footage. That is dust on the sensor. It seems my tape didn't do an adequate job of protecting it but I was able to clean the dust off with a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab. I think it could have used a cleaning anyway even before I opened it up as I noticed a smudge probably left by someones finger during assembly. Certainly there's not a lot of quality control on a $35 off brand camera. If you have any questions please leave them in the comment section below! Thanks for being one of the rare viewers to read the video description! -Ben

The YouTube Gold Play Button is one of the most coveted awards a YouTuber can get. Is it really made of gold? Is the Silver Play button really made out of silver? There is only one way to find out. Watch as we take the Gold and Silver play buttons from the YouTube channel WhatsInside, and stick them deep inside a $750,000 Electron Microscope that will give us the exact elemental make up of the Gold Play button. This is the SAME play button that was cut in half by the Whatsinside YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/TfL5ivT_NW0 And HERE on Casey Neistats Vlog: https://youtu.be/SIT8EhUkPxI The Gold Play Button is given to YouTubers who reach 1 Million subscribers. The Silver Play Button is given to YouTubers who reach 100k subscribers. There is another award for the few YouTubers who reach 10 Million subscribers... Let me know if you have one, and we can asses the elemental make up ;-) The Video talks about several different scenarios, but the main point is that the Gold Play button DOES contain REAL GOLD! Which is amazing. This video was shot entirely with a Galaxy S7 Edge, and an iPhone 7 Plus. (The computer screen shots were the one filmed with an iPhone. Here be Kaleidoscopes painted with electrons, as seen through the jeweler's loupe and/or microscope! This crystal came to me as a bolt of lightning, when I was a vendor at a large healing arts expo in Sacramento (hmm, 11 or so years ago)... I'd been feeling it for all three days, but our booth was steadily busy and... On the third day, she started calling insistently - to the point where I *HAD TO follow the track of that energy, that Beacon...* As it turns out, the crystal's Keeper was all the way across the Convention Center - about 2 blocks away... The closer I got the louder her Song in my cells until *WHOOSH!* I saw my hand reach out and merge with the crystal and we go LIGHTBODY for some... moment beyond time... Beloved! (That's his name)... His Keeper smiles and says, "that one's been with me for 20 years and has never come to a show with me. But this time I had no choice but to bring it - now I know why... He's YOURS..." My mind was so blown by this crystal, I didn't even *think* to ask her for history. *chuckle* wow... I've also sensed "Diamantina" and "Lemurian" with this Elder - and yes, it IS, but... not exactly... I'm not at all sure this Elder is from the earth! LOL What an adventure to photo it! There are glyphs and etchings on every face... One termination is elestial, with a large keyhole at the side. It's also a recordkeeper. I found a folder of Medicine images of this Beloved, shot over the last 2 years (she would not allow me to photo her before then - she'd go transparent and disappear... I was astonished to see a folder with 480 images! the originals, and Medicine-extracted ones... Wow... So I launched PSGold and started riding the flow, as if I'm riding a fractal generator while channeling the slide show... whew - don't mean to be so wordy - still quite liquid from the birthing... I can't *say* much 'about it' - rather allow the Crystal Beings to speak through these slideshows... Remove the thinking cap, go Full screen, sit back and allow the cells to receive the transmission via the electrons in the screen bouncing off the visual cortex... "Smokey Glyphic Quartz Crystal - Parts One and Two" are complete, and LIVE, as of an hour ago. I'm sensing there will be Five parts, but we'll see how it flows... What do you feel when you drink these images with your cells? What stories does he tell you? ??? *bowing Respect and Appreciation* ~ anna

This has been a constant dynamic in Kansas City from the first drainage pipe in OK Creek to the recent decisions concerning combined sewer overflows and stormwater management. Kansas Cities uses of the river and our attitudes have changed with time. In this presentation John Dunn shares a short history of how our Kansas City grew, and how our water infrastructure grew with it. The Clean Water Act brought about big changes in the national picture and Kansas City was no exception. He will talk about the basics of our current water and waste water systems and the water issues facing the KC Metro. John Dunn, is an EPA Engineer with over 25 years of water experience. The mission of the United States Environmental Protection Agency is to protect human health and the environment. Developmental Origins of Brain Circuit Architecture and Psychiatric Disorders (Day 2) Air date: Friday, November 30, 2018, 8:30:00 AM Category: Conferences Runtime: 07:35:37 Description: Developmental neurobiology is a critical ingredient for understanding the structure and function of the human brain. Classical anatomists recognized that the brain’s component architecture is most accurately seen through the lens of neurodevelopment. This principle has been further applied to understand the brain’s internal connections, capacity for learning, and functional maturation. By drawing together researchers from different fields, this symposium aims to generate healthy discussion and debate on how advances in neurodevelopment have shaped and will continue to shape, our understanding of brain architecture and function, both in health and in psychiatric disorders. 2018 Demystifying Medicine: Prenatal Genomics and Fetal Gene Therapy Air date: Tuesday, April 24, 2018, 4:00:00 PM Category: Demystifying Medicine Runtime: 01:22:15 Description: Demystifying Medicine Technologies to not merely detect fetal abnormalities but to treat them in utero at the earliest stages of human development have merged and are poised to improve pregnancy outcomes and the long-term health and wellbeing of the baby. Two leaders in this challenging new field — NICHD Director Diana Bianchi, M.D., and NICHD Senior Investigator Alan Decherney, M.D. — discuss the remarkable advances in recent years, such as understanding fetal and placental biology through sequence analysis of nucleic acids that circulate within the pregnant woman's blood, collected noninvasively. Although such advances hold great promise, they are coupled with thorny ethical issues concerning the efficacy of treatment and proper safeguarding of data. Widely used methods to detect fetal abnormalities include imaging and placental biopsies. Noninvasive prenatal DNA testing is now in the vanguard of genomic medicine and has revolutionized prenatal care globally and has created new opportunities for personalized medicine for the fetus. The technique is based on detection of prenatal DNA in cells isolate from the mother’s circulation during pregnancy. There is need for pretest education for all pregnant women and consistent post-test management recommendations for those with discordant results. Prenatal DNA testing has had profound effects on diagnosis and management of fetal abnormalities. However, the accumulating datasets of genomic information on pregnant women and their fetuses raises ethical issues concerning data-mining and intellectual property. Lead paint or lead-based paint is paint containing lead. As pigment, lead(II) chromate (PbCrO4, "chrome yellow") and lead(II) carbonate (PbCO3, "white lead") are the most common forms. Lead is added to paint to speed up drying, increase durability, maintain a fresh appearance, and resist moisture that causes corrosion. It is one of the main health and environmental hazards associated with paint. In some countries, lead continues to be added to paint intended for domestic use, whereas countries such as the U.S. and the U.K. have regulations prohibiting this, although lead paint may still be found in older properties painted prior to the introduction of such regulations. Although lead has been banned from household paints in the United States since 1978, paint used in road markings may still contain it. Alternatives such as water-based, lead-free traffic paint are readily available, and many states and federal agencies have changed their purchasing contracts to buy these instead.
