In search of a gemstone! Gem hunting for Rhodonite.

16:32
Gem hunting for Rhodonite in the Ashnola river valley. Dayna and I were in search of a gemstone on my new Rhodonite claim. Rhodonite sometime forms gem crystals, but most often around here forms masses which are often used for making lapidary cabs, cabochons, carvings, spheres and eggs. Rock hunting for rhodonite is common in the Keromeos area. Rock hunters often get rhodonite from the talus slopes all around the Keromeos area. We did not find much in the way of rhodonite, however we did find a good soapstone seam and upon further research rhodonite often forms with talc (soapstone), Prospecting for gemstones is always exciting but as shown here finding gemstones is not always successful Rock hunting and gem hunting are just another form of prospecting. I will go back to the quarry or seam that we found and had obviously been worked and take a bunch of material and hopefully we will hit some better specimens of rhodonite. Rhodochrosite - Lets Talk Stones

05:18
For more information on crystals and how to use them, please visit our online classroom, featuring on demand classes at prices you can afford! http://crystaliscious.com/chrystaliscious-portal/on-demand-classes-available.html Rhodochrosite is a stone that is about assisting one to let go of what no longer is helping us. This could include beliefs, habits of thought, or even others that are within our reality. Rhodochrosite assists us in identifying what is at the root of our fears and judgements of ourselves so that we can move on from them. When we work with Rhodochrosite we typically find ourselves reliving old painful memories, many times of childhood, but often times memories we aren't even sure we recognize. These memories are just rhodochrosites way of asking you to look at what it is you are carrying around and decide if it is the way you want it, if not then change the way you see it. That is Rhodochrosite's greatest gift to us, it assists us in changing the way we see past events so that we can leave them behind, once and for all!

Outstanding Custom Pink Colorado Rhodochrosite Gemstone from KGC

00:31
Gem: Rhodochrosite Weight: 0.98 ts. Size: 6.01 mm. Color: Pink Clarity: VVS Cut: Round Brilliant Locality: Sweethome Mine, Alma, Colorado Treatment: None Rhodochrosite from the Sweethome mine is one of the most sought after US gemstones. The mine has been closed for nearly 15 years now, and very little new production of Rhodochrosite has come from any other Colorado locality since. Needless to say, the material is difficult to obtain and is becoming unbelievably expensive. This gem was cut from a broken rhomb that came out of the mine in 1978. The stone is faceted expertly, displaying a stunning polish and sharp beautiful facets. The clarity is superb and the stone has exceptional light return. There are flashes of blue when the stone is moved in the light. This is minor, but distinctive dispersion coming from the excellent faceting. This is a fine collector’s stone and becoming difficult to replace. This stone was faceted by Brett Kosnar, during January 2016. Want to shop? #16626 - RHODOCHROSITE, MANGANITE, South Africa

00:28
https://quebulfineminerals.com/en/minerals/item/16626 Absolutely gorgeous gem Rhodochrosite crystals sprinkled by small black Manganites from the famous NChwaning I Mine, South Africa. It displays completely transparent, clear and gem Rhodochrosite crystals. They have an intense and incredibly rich red color. The crystals are perfect with sharp shape and edges. The faces have glassy luster. The quality is outstanding - superb color and clarity so the crystal just glows. The deposit has produced these treasures long time ago and pieces like this have always been scarce. The quality rivals the Sweet Home Mine Rhodochrosites. For references see the 2017 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 48, # 1. In excellent condition – some base part contacts. On acrylic base. Killer beauty!
MINERAL MONDAY - FLUORITE

00:30
Fluorite is usually purple, blue, pink or colourless. The Blue John mines in the Peak District produces the famous Blue John Stone. It is extracted by hand to preserve the crystal structures of the fluor-spar. Explosives can turn the vibrant colours to appear off-white. It is commonly found in hydrothermal veins. These samples are from Derbyshire and Northern England. Specimens are housed at the Lapworth Museum of Geology.

Rhodochrosite01

00:50
One of the significant milestones in mineral collecting came about when a small Silver mine high up in the Mosquito Range above Alma, Colorado was reopened for the express purpose of searching for more of the Rhodochrosite specimens produced in the 1880s when it was being mined for Lead-Silver ore. Using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and other modern tools for location and extraction of specimens without the usual damage, the miners organized by Bryan Lees methodically mined fissure 'targets' generated by GPR and carefully extracted any Rhodochrosites contained within. Most of the production consisted of loose single crystals but along with them were plates and groups of outstanding color, luster and size. Before mining ceased in 2003 significant numbers of specimens had been recovered. Of those many specimens only a few of the top specimens were of the quality or size exhibited by the example seen here. Looking a lot like a toothy slice of watermelon, this crescent shaped confection is literally covered with dozens of brilliantly lustrous rhombs up to 1½ inches on edge, of a deep reddish-pink hue. Scattered over, under, and occasionally on the Rhodochrosite are: cubes of violet Fluorite, brassy-gold Chalcopyrite crystals, black pyramids of Tetrahedrite and colorless needles of Quartz. Due to the extreme care taken when extracting the specimen the condition is excellent and it has been carefully curated ever since. Overall measurements: 11.5 x 5 x 2.75 inches (29.2 x 12.7 x 7 cm). Visit the live auction at: http://fineart.ha.com/c/ecatalog.zx?saleNo=5110 Auction closes on June 2, 2013.

Gem: Rhodochrosite Weight: 51.83 cts. Size: 30.48 x 19.39 mm. Color: Pink and White Clarity: Translucent (Gemmy) Cut: Shield Cabochon Locality: Argentina Treatment: None Here is a large and beautiful piece of Rhodochrosite. The mines in Argentina are one of the most famous producers of Rhodochrosite in the world and very possibly the largest. The attraction of this material is the lovely banding that occurs in the massive veins of rock. This piece is transparent in the pink bands, which is pretty when back lit. Jet - The Ancient Mystery of the Wilderness

08:46
Jet is fossilised wood that has metamorphosed into lignite coal. Although it has no crystalline structure, and thus not a true crystal, it still encompasses great energy because it was once living matter and part of this life force and wisdom remains within its being. Jet has long been prized as a powerful amulet for protection and healing. It is used to protect from all evils, from physical illness and conditions such as depression, to spiritual challenges such as psychic attack, demons or any other form of unwanted energy. Jet will also help you deal with the grief of the death of a loved one, including pets. Awesome Rhodochrosite, Malachite and Lapis Stone Art from KGC

00:48
Gem: Rhodochrosite, Malachite and Lapis Assembled Slab Weight: 21.53 cts. Size: 46.29 x 30.81 mm Color: Blue, Green and Pink Clarity: Opaque to Gemmy Cut: Shield Slab Locality: Argentina, Congo and Afghanistan Treatment: Assembled Here is a fun and interesting piece. This is an assembly of a few different minerals; Rhodochrosite, Malachite and Lapis. All of the different minerals are slabbed individually into their proper shapes and then assembled with an epoxy resin. After the pieces are assembled the composite is then slabbed again into a flat mosaic style piece. This process takes quite a bit of time and requires much attention to detail. The Rhodochrosite is gemmy and beautiful when backlit. This piece would be excellent in a pendant, but is quite a nice collector’s piece as is. Enjoy!

ASMR Tumbled Stones (soft spoken, stone sounds, sorting)

47:06
ASMR Tumbled Stones (soft speaking, stone sounds, sorting) Way back in the day, in my early teens, I had a "rock tumbler" (the "Tumble Stones" tumbler by Tapco). It was an entry-level tumbler, with a cheap motor and a loud plastic barrel. I had to run it in a back room near the garage to get the noise level low enough for people to sleep at night. In the 1970's, craft hobbies were all the rage. Rock tumblers were often marketed as a way to make your own jewelry, and indeed, the refill kit I show in this video came with little metal parts to turn small polished stones into rings, necklaces and tie clips. But I never cared about that aspect of it. I fancied myself a geologist in training, and just liked rocks, plain and simple. I only tumbled a couple of batches of stones, sadly. The process was not only a great exercise in patience (a month from start to finish), but also a great exercise in discovery. Smoothing and polishing a stone allowed me to "see" into it, as the new glassy surface revealed many vibrant and dynamic secrets, clues that spoke to how that stone came to be. All these years later, I still have that yellow plastic barrel, filled with polished stones. Some of these are ones that I tumbled as a kid, while others have been collected by my kids on some of our family trips together. And all these years later, a polished stone still stops me in my tracks. I guess my inner child still can resist the urge to look through that polished window, to see what there is to see. A few videos ago, we talked about the luxury of slowing down and allowing our tired brains to focus on one simple task for a little while. Trying to better follow my own advice, I spend a little time sorting these stones by color, and looking at them closely. I hope this has the same on you as it does on me. If you're a fan of polished stones, I'd love it if you could comment below on any stones that you can identify. If you provide time stamps, then maybe I can eventually add an index for identifying all the stones in this video! Thanks to Beth Darlington for this first cut at a stone list! If you have any refinements to make, let me know in the comments, and I'll add your inputs here: 15:24 Agate 16:36 Agate 17:09 Sodalite 17:25 Tigers eye 20:20 could be amethyst but looks more man-made to me (beth) 20:20 could be a lab created chariote (teajoygreye) 20:20 purple goldstone (jackthebeenstock) 20:52 dyed crackle quartz 21:35 Amethyst 22:22 not sure, maybe agate or quartz 22:41 Agate 25:48 Rhodochrosite 27:21 Carnelian 27:52 orange calcite maybe? 28:56 Rose quartz 30:05 Carnelian 30:51 Haematite or Pyrite (fool's gold) 31:29 Snowflake obsidian 31:54 Agate 32:33 maybe Blood Jasper 32:56 Smoky quartz 33:30 Quartz 34:44 the next few are agate 38:49 could be agate or rhodonite 40:25 Citrine 41:39 Agate 42:22 Tigers eye 43:26 Blood Jasper and quartz 43:49 maybe moonstone or rutilated quartz 44:11 Flower Jasper (lunaflower1978) Please check out my “The Junk Drawer" playlist periodically for new casual videos of behind-the-scenes stuff or extra content.
