Modulus refer to no of unique states the counter moves in before repeating. synchronous clear means clear input is in synchronous with clock so the output of counter will not be resetted until a clock edge occurs. Asynchronous clear means clear input is not in synchronous with clock. so it does not wait for the clock for resetting the counter.

Application of Synchronous Counters Synchronous or parallel counters are known to be the fastest devices of the kind. The high speed is achieved by a substantial complication of the mircochip's internal structure. This results in the fact that they are more difficult to control if compared to the asynchronous counters and series-carry synchronous counters. That's why synchronous counters should only be used in the cases, when high performance and high digit switching speed is a must. Otherwise the complication of the control circuit is just not worth it. Let's look at some circuits based on synchronous counters. The synchronous counters enable a rather simple implementation of a controlled frequency divider with a conversion factor set by an entry code. In the circuit the carry signal CR produced by the senior counter is supplied to the write enable input EWR. The counters operate in the countdown mode (the zero level signal is supplied to the U/D input). When all the counters reach the null code, a carry signal CR is generated, which switches the devices into the mode of concurrently writing the control code. The next positive edge of the clock C records the entry code in the counters. This results in a new count cycle from the entry code to zero. The next circuit - a generator of a time interval of the set duration - demonstrates how the output carry signal of synchronous counters should be used when required is a single operation cycle. The generator's operation is triggered by a short negative pulse Start, which sets the control flip-flop to one and starts the input signal. The positive signal from the flip-flop output switches the 8-digit synchronous counter from the concurrent write mode to the count mode (on EWR input). The countdown is performed on the positive edge of the clock from the generator. When the counter reaches zero, the next positive edge of the clock writes the carry signal CR into the flip-flop. This concludes the output signal, and the counter switches to the concurrent write mode. The next operation cycle of the generator starts at the Start signal. The use of synchronous counters can be associated with their ability to concurrently write on the clock edge. Use of synchronous counters with asynchronous transfer, generation of pulse group Generation of incoming pulse group (burst) with preset impulse quantity is a common task. Such generation is required, for instance, when exchanging information in serial code. The task is solved using synchronous counters with asynchronous transfer. If a 8-bit shift register is used to transform a parallel code into a series one, then it needs a pulse burst (8 pulses) as a sync signal. Let's look at such generator scheme. One trigger is used to synchronize. It's transferred by positive front of "Start" signal. The second trigger is transferred by one positive front of such generator signal. The second trigger allows generator pulses to go to the output through 2I-NE element, as well as allows IE7 counter operation. As a result, Output 1 generates pulse burst, the pulses quantity is monitored by means of IE7 counter. After 8 negative pulses go to the Circuit Output 1, the counter's output 8 generates unity, it resets both triggers to the initial zero condition (by means of a negative pulse of 2I-NE element output), and bans pulse run to the output. 8 pulse burst is generated. The generator becomes active after the next "Start" signal.

Note that 10k ohm resistors were used in this circuit which is SUPER overkill, considering we only use a 5V emf and each LED has a voltage drop of ~2V, but 10k is all I had on hand. :-)

**********Welcome to my channel********** CD4026 pin configuration: Pin 1 (clock) : The counting happens when this clock pulse goes high Pin 2 (clock inhibit) : This pin is Connected to the Ground (low) to enable clock pin Pin 3 (enable input(DEI)) :This pin is connect to +5V (high) to enable the output pins (Out A to Out G) Pin 4 (enable output(DEO)) :This is an output which always stays high, this pin will be only if more than one CD4026 IC is used (cascaded) Pin 5(divide by 10(CO)) :This is the carry over output pin. This pin produces a pulse after counting till 9. This pin will be only if more than one CD4026 IC is used Pin 6-13 (output ABCDEFG) :These are the decoded output pins which should connected to 7-Segment display. Pin 14 (not 2 out(NCS)) : This is Ungated C segment pin. This is an output pin which will be rarely used when division is required Pin 15( reset) : when this pin is high(+5v) the counter reset to 0 Pin 16(vcc) : This pin power the ic from +3v to 15v.in normal +5 volt is used CD 4026 equivalent ic's : CD4543, IC4033, IC4511 Working : The IC can work from 3V to 15V, but normally powered with +5V to the Vcc pin. We have 7 output pins ABCDEFG which is directly connected to the 7 segment display. The clock inhibit pin (pin 2) has to be held low (ground) so that the clock signals can be sent to the IC also the Enable Input pin (pin 3) should be made high (+5V) so that the output pins (ABCDEFG) can be made active. The 7-segment pins will increment the count by one number each time when the clock pin (pin 1) is made high. This clock source can either be obtained from clock pulse generator circuit. They simply have to generate a pulse of low voltage 0V and high voltage 5V. By giving 1Hz clock pulse we can obtain the counting speed of normal clock(12\24hr The reset pin is used to reset counter to 0. Pins (5,4,14) is used only while cascading the ic's .The pin 5(CO) is high at normal when the counter reaches 9 it will produce an small pulse .this pulse is now applied to the clock pin of the cascading ic to display more than one digit by using this method we can increase the number of digits for counting ####### Like,share, subscriber#######
