MOP Booleans | Subtract Option

137 ratings | 14190 views
William Vaughan here with a quick introduction to the subtract option in the Pushing Points MOP Booleans Kit for MODO. The Pushing Points MOP Booleans Kit is a MODO KIT designed to remove the challenges of working with complex boolean operations and introduces a non-destructive workflow that makes creating highly detailed meshes a trivial task. http://pushingpoints.com/v2/the-pushing-points-mop-booleans-kit-for-modo/

The Ctrl+Shift+X does not work. I researched it and it seems no one had this problem. Any idea why? Thanks a lot! awesome helpful videos!

Where are the MOP Boolean icons in modo 12.2v1? After installing they don't show up on the right side of the toolbar like in the video.
synectic (4 months ago)
+pixelfondue Can you please send a link to the video?
pixelfondue (4 months ago)
They moved to the kits pop over in the right corner. But watch the work benches video I created to see how to place them back where they once we're

Special Ctrl + Shift + X button doesn't work for me.
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
Do you have MOP Booleans installed? If so, reset prefs.
fuarrkk (1 year ago)
Ok I understand how it works, but after you made all the booleans operations that you want.. how do you get the final edited mesh and end all the "mop" stuff ?? to have it as a regular item in modo.
fuarrkk (1 year ago)
tyvm :)
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
use the freeze option
eugene (1 year ago)
with sub d 's it works incretibly slowly , better use meshfusion
Ron Richards (1 year ago)
This is fantastic! I just picked this up and loaded it. I can't get it working in Modo 11.2v1. Anyone else having probs?
Ron Richards (1 year ago)
Absolutely !
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
Happy to hear your all set. Enjoythe tools and keep me posted on all the cool work you produce!

That video did the trick thanks! I just started using Modo, just jumped from 15 years with LW to Modo.. I should have done it 5 years ago. Thanks again for everything you do for the community!

I've been using it with 11.2... whats not working for you? Have you been thru the docs and all of the videos?

I'm in LOVE with MOP Booleans. However I have noticed that the refresh rate slows down a lot when I use them. Any idea why? Is there heavier operations happening? Or is it just my SubD level? I notice it SubDs my meshes when it subtracts them. Making adjustments like moving the cutter mesh through the primary is slowed to a crawl until I turn off SubDs temporarily while I move it.
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
I'd need to see the mesh. Heavy SubD meshes could easily slow things down.
Sasori Tobi (1 year ago)
is there a way to switch subtract to union and back?
Sasori Tobi (1 year ago)
thanks! I will try that !
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
You can select any mesh that is assigned and have it switched to another operator using the pie menu options.
Stuart Spencer (1 year ago)
Bang, how do I select a boolean mesh after it's created?
Ryan (1 year ago)
Where can I buy this?

I must be missing something because even following the first couple of steps here all I get when trying to subtract is "you must have your mouse over a mesh to run this script" yet I am replicating the steps of this video exactly as far as I can tell.
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
make sure you cursor is over the mesh after our menu is released.
Rupert Ramiro (1 year ago)
what the fuck. this is fucking awesome haha

I purchased the mop kit and am enjoying it, but I have one question. I'm wondering how to quickly select back and forth between the mesh op boolean base object and the subtracting object. When the subtracting object is selected I know you can click the select base button in the pie menu to get back to the base object, but when the base object is selected how do I quickly select the subtracting object. I can't get back to the subtracting object without pressing 5 (item mode) and then selecting the object. I was just wondering if there was an easier way, as in some of your videos as well as Tor's it appears that you are selecting between objects very quickly. Thanks
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
Selecting in Item mode is the way to go. Since you can have an endless number of drivers there isnt a built in command to grab them.
Norman Olsen (1 year ago)
THIS! This is amazing! Foundry needs to integrate this into an upcoming version of Modo!! It's simply beautiful! Great job!

Thanks for the kind words!

Hi Pixelfondue , i just bought the MOP Boolean and try it out is working but is still a little buggy...as i crash a few times....maybe i am not good at the Kit yet...my question is will u be refining the kits with update to all the buyer?
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
remove the old one before installing the new one. restart MODO
DesMonDLee24 (1 year ago)
Hi i just receive the MOP BOOLEAN update today from the email....i wonder do i have to delete the Old folder or just Copy and replace? or is the same? haha
DesMonDLee24 (1 year ago)
Ok gotcha...hope u let us know when u updated ! :D
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
where you bought the kit is on Gumroad. It keep strack of everything you buy there.
DesMonDLee24 (1 year ago)
by gumroad account do you mean the email purchase? i am sorry i am very clueless of all this...
Liberty Man (1 year ago)
Looks like HardOPs
Remon (1 year ago)
no HardOps is different. MODO cannot apply an edge bevel to booleaned surfaces like these. Instead we use the rounded edge shader or convert boolean objects to sub-d. HardOps is definitely a step further but the fact that this is available for MODO is great.
Liberty Man (1 year ago)
nevermind) ) ill ask someone on my language, thanks! )
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
Im not sure I understand your question?
Liberty Man (1 year ago)
is it not subdivision surface or smooth modifir ?
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
Ive never used Hard Ops so I cant say
Dinusty (1 year ago)
good stuff :)

Wow!
Claudio Ciseria (1 year ago)
Excuse me. Bought the kit but as soon as I create a MOP it turn wireframe and no chance to get it shaded. I have to select MOP_Build in the tree to have the mesh back to color.

pixelfondue (1 year ago)
have you tried the Select Base option in the pie menu? watch the video closely and you can follow along.
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
can you share a screen grab.
Claudio Ciseria (1 year ago)
After selecting the meshes with Item they come back to life and I can select with polygon or edge. But as soon as I have an edge selected in my MOP Meshes, if I try to bevel a popup appear :"Active layers contain no data for operations". I have to manually find and select "MOP Base" layer in the MOP tree to have it working.
Claudio Ciseria (1 year ago)
Hi, I have enable deformers active and also my inactive mashes are set to same as active.
PixelShaded (1 year ago)
Not available for modo 10?
Shae Shatz (1 year ago)
yeah, bummer! :) thanks for making it though. off to buy modo 11.
Alec Morris (1 year ago)
bummer
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
No. It uses features added to MODO 11
Cristian Giuseppone (1 year ago)
Subtraction is amazing! Waiting for a merge option video :) (there will be an option to add a bevel in intersections?)
eldeecg (1 year ago)
I find myself needing an 'alternate union', or something to that effect. if you subtract from the base and then try to 'add' something to the void that was created it will fail.. the union is too far down the operator stack so the initial subtract happens 'after' it. Simply moving the union higher up the operator stack doesn't help because the mop toolkit is expecting things to be in a certain order
eldeecg (1 year ago)
awesome, yeah i'd love to see that. my ideal stack would probably look something like Base->Union->Subtract->Union #2->Subtract #2->Intersect
pixelfondue (1 year ago)
you can movethe union operator up in the stack np. You can also add additional union, intersect, subtractions to the assembly as well. I'll make a video at some point showing it.

Dont work it me ctrl+shift+x :/
Oğuzhan akova wanted (1 year ago)
NO :D I thought Modo was an add-on :)
